We were vacationing in Sun Valley, Idaho along with my aunt, uncle and their two kids. I was not quite 7 years old so my memories are somewhat vague. I do remember playing outside and our parents calling us to come inside the condo to watch.
I really only remember sitting on the floor with my brothers and cousins and watching a fuzzy picture on the television. I think we all sensed this was important but as the second to oldest I doubt any of us grasped how truly monumental this occasion was.
When you consider how primitive technology was in those days you realize what an incredible accomplishment it was and how brave those astronauts were. I’m truly in awe of them and their families. Can you imagine being the spouse of one of those astronauts and not knowing if you’d ever see them again?
Did you watch the moon landing? What are your memories of it?
