They say it’s my birthday!

August 27, 2010 By Deanna Piercy 2 Comments

I’m so excited! David is whisking me away for the weekend at our favorite Oklahoma City hotel, the Skirvin. A whole weekend relaxing in luxury – sigh…

I had my big party last week and my kids took me to Norman yesterday for lunch and a little shopping. Wanna see David’s gift to me?

From Tea With Dee

Our friend, Bryan Ory painted this.  Isn’t it gorgeous?  Of course, the photo doesn’t do it justice but I fell in love with it when I first saw it and it looks beautiful in my library (I have purple velvet drapes in there which really bring out the purples in the painting).

David brought me breakfast in bed (Earl Grey – I’m not much of a breakfast eater), Chris came up and gave me a hug before he left for work, my mom and dad called, as did our investment broker.  And I’ve been simply overwhelmed by all the nice birthday messages on Facebook.  Nearly 60 at last count!  Bryan, the painter, put the following video on my profile page:

That song will always be special to me for two reasons.   First, it’s a family tradition.  My kids grew up hearing this first thing in the morning on their birthdays.  As they got a little older they would play it for David and me on our birthdays.  Second, Bryan (the painter) and Debi of Debi and the Deacons sang this to me at Tropical Isle five years ago tonight.  We were in New Orleans, hoping we’d be able to fly out the next  morning because Hurricane Katrina was heading our way.  After buying some bottled water and a few food items  *just in case*, we figured there wasn’t much else we could do so we attended the hurricane party at Tropical Isle.  One of the more *interesting* birthdays I’ve ever had.  (I’ll have more to say about all that in my annual post-Katrina blog post on Sunday.)

Anyway, it’s my birthday and I’m a happy girl.  Now I’d better start packing!

    Happy birthday!

I, too, felt the impulse to remember Katrina and her effect on our lives on this 5-year anniversary. Here.

Thanks, Frank! I left you a comment on your Katrina post. I finally finished mine last night.
