We started the party at 7 p.m. and finished up around 11 p.m. — just in time for something I never thought I’d see. Chris’ friends’ rap group, Ballz Deeep, somehow convinced the restaurant owners to let them have a private concert after hours.
They opened with two DJ sets, DJ Yachtsman and DJ Bifurious.

We were honored to have been the only parents invited to this fine event. Will Hogan, who shared several of these photos, said it was because we had “obviously not turned in our cool cards like most grownups”, which was awfully sweet. I suspect the fact that we host Happyland Music Fest each year might have something to do with it, too. All of these young people go out of their way to be nice to the crazy folks who let them have their mini-Woodstock every Memorial Day weekend. What I don’t think they totally realize is that we enjoy this stuff nearly as much as they do. It was an exciting and memorable way to celebrate. Thanks to everyone who helped make it so much fun!
