Today marks the 39th anniversary of the first Earth Day. What are you doing to celebrate this day? My daughter and I are attending the annual meeting of our local recycling coalition, complete with buffet lunch. She is also to be instated as a board member. Kudos to Lisa!
Later today I plan to purchase some pre-adolescent chickens. I found some yesterday which are old enough to be outdoors as long as they are protected and have a heat source. I then got the brilliant idea of putting their cage on our large, covered balcony. There is a plug outlet for their heat lamp, they’ll be protected from curious dogs and other critters, and best of all…they won’t be in my spare room spreading chick dander on everything from curtains to treadmill. No, they aren’t as cute at this stage of development but I’ve done the adorable baby chick thing twice before and I’m willing to forgo that in exchange for less vacuuming.
In further news here on Apple Tree Farm, David has been building two new raised beds for me. I hope to have pictures soon. After all the hard work he’s put into these, I certainly hope I will have a healthy harvest to show for it.
In honor of Earth Day I leave you with the following quote:
