Anyone else feel like this year is zipping by? I would have thought time would feel like it’s dragging but for some reason that isn’t the case for me. But here it is, the first of May and time for a new LWD Book Club selection. I find myself drawn to simply, cozy books right now which seems like the perfect time for me to start the Fairacre series by Miss Read. Village School is the first in the series and I’m eager to enter a world of Fairacre, a British village in the 1950s. Doesn’t that sound delightful?

MAY BOOK CLUB SELECTION
Village School by Miss Read
The first novel in the beloved Fairacre series, Village School introduces the remarkable schoolmistress Miss Read and her lovable group of children, who, with a mixture of skinned knees and smiles, are just as likely to lose themselves as their mittens. This is the English village of Fairacre: a handful of thatch-roofed cottages, a church, the school, the promise of fair weather, friendly faces, and good cheer — at least most of the time. Here everyone knows everyone else’s business, and the villagers like each other anyway (even Miss Pringle, the irascible, gloomy cleaner of Fairacre School). With a wise heart and a discerning eye, Miss Read guides us through one crisp, glistening autumn in her village and introduces us to a cast of unforgettable characters and a world of drama, romance, and humor, all within a stone’s throw of the school. By the time winter comes, you’ll be nestled snugly into the warmth and wit of Fairacre and won’t want to leave.
I’m really looking forward to this sweet escape. What are you reading these days?

Yes, the year does seem to be flying by, doesn’t it?
I can understand that kind of reading impulse, especially right now.
I’m currently working my way through the “Outlander” books by Diana Gavaldon (I think that’s how you spell her name, and don’t want to go look). I’m roughly half way through book five at the time of writing this comment. I plan on watching the TV series based on the books after I finish reading the books.
