THIS WEEK WITH DEE
We are going to be wrapping up March this week. Anyone else feel as though this month has sped by?
MENU:
I didn’t do my usual Monday grocery pickup today. Instead, I picked up the things my mom needed yesterday at Braum’s, as well as a couple of items for us. I really didn’t need a full grocery order this week. I do need a few items for Easter dinner from Aldi (mainly a ham) so I’ll do that via Instacart one day this week. Or if my daughter is placing an order I may just add a couple of things to hers.
We still had plenty of options on hand for meals this week, although I did buy pork chops at Braum’s. They came two to a package which works out well since I want to make a meal to take to my mom. That’s why our Wednesday meal has several items in it. They are things she likes and I can make two plates from it for her as the pork chops are quite large.
Monday…
- spaghetti and meatballs
- green beans
- salad
- garlic bread
Tuesday…
- tacos
- chips & salsa
Wednesday…
- pork chops
- stuffing
- peas
- biscuits
- salad
- cooked apples
Thursday…
I didn’t make this last week so it’s on the menu again.
- baked potatoes with chili
- broccoli
Friday…
- Chicken Tikka Masala
- rice
- naan bread
Saturday…
- leftovers or takeout
Sunday…
Easter –
- ham
- mashed potatoes
- green bean casserole
- candied yams
- cranberry sauce
- rolls
IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
Monday…
I did the usual home tasks – bed, dishes, and laundry. I also watered all my houseplants. I’ve got a hanging Creeping Charlie in my kitchen which looks terrible. I don’t know what the issue is as all my other plants are doing well. As soon as I know the overnight temperatures will be well over freezing I plan to hang it on the back patio where it will get the morning sun and see if I can salvage it. If any of you have any other suggestions, please share.
As far as office work, I did the daily admin tasks, wrote a blog post, scheduled some social media, did a bit of updating on a couple of spring blog posts and then shared to Pinterest.
I read, journaled, meditated, exercised and did a couple of Duolingo French lessons.
For dinner I made ham bean soup, cornbread and homemade coleslaw.
Tuesday…
I made the bed, did a load of laundry and washed dishes – like every day! I also took the coffee table books, silver tea set, etc. off the coffee table in our library and gave it a good polish before replacing the items.
I did the daily admin work, scheduled some social media, shared something for the LWD March challenge in the Facebook group, and did part of a writing course I’m taking.
I read, journaled, meditated, did a few Duolingo French lessons, and watched an episode of Julia Child’s “The French Chef”.
Dinner was black bean enchiladas, yellow rice, chips & salsa.
Wednesday…
Bed, laundry, dishes – you know the drill.
Daily admin, scheduled social media, LWD challenge post, added posts to Pinterest. I ordered See’s candy for Easter and ordered my prescription refills. I got a condolence card ready to mail (David mailed it when he went to town that afternoon). I also had a Zoom call that morning.
I read, journaled, and did Duolingo.
It’s an annual tradition to make my friend’s Jambalaya on the first day of Spring ever since she passed away. I made homemade potato salad to go with it for our dinner.
After dinner David and I went next door to Chris’ house to watch the first half of “Titanic” with him. David and I had never seen it before.
Thursday…
I had a Zoom call, worked on a blog post, did the usual home and office tasks, drove to town to pick up my prescription refills, read, journaled, meditated and did Duolingo lessons.
We had plenty of jambalaya and potato salad from the night before so we had it again. It was nice to not have to cook and minimal cleanup, too.
After dinner we went to Chris’ to watch the rest of “Titanic”.
Friday…
This was a busy day. I picked up my mom at 10:30 to take her to get a pedicure. She was having trouble with an ingrown toenail. David and I attended a graveside service that afternoon.
We ended up deciding to get Chinese takeout for dinner which was my third trip to town for the day.
That night we asked the kids for their donut orders and went to town at 9 p.m. (4th trip, in case you’ve lost count). Unfortunately the donut shop was closed. They’ve reduced their hours due to staffing issues. David had an idea. He ran into a convenience store and picked up packages of Hostess donuts and Slim Jims for the guys who had requested sausage rolls from the donut shop. We made our deliveries and they all thought it was funny. Charlotte was just happy to have a late night visit from Gramma and Grampa and happily ate her Hostess donuts.
Saturday…
I spent several hours working on a blog post. Otherwise I just did the usual daily stuff. For dinner I made chicken & rice, and fresh asparagus.
Sunday…
My big task of the day was to finish the blog post I’d been working on for three days:
If you haven’t read it yet, check it out. I think you’ll enjoy it. 🙂
I washed the sheets and remade the bed. I made our menu for the week and cooked three dishes for my mom. We needed to drop off David’s truck for Matt and Joy to borrow (the windshield of their car was damaged in the hail storm and they had to drive to the city for Charlotte’s dental appointment Monday) so I decided to get Mom’s groceries at Braum’s while we were in town. We had a short visit and lots of hugs from Charlotte and then took the groceries and food I’d cooked to Mom.
We had leftovers from last night’s chicken and rice so I remade it into a casserole. There was enough fresh asparagus for me to cook it as our side dish again. I had about a fourth of a package of fresh strawberries left so I sliced them up and added the rest of the green grapes for a simple fruit salad.
David and I watched another episode of The Gilded Age when we went to bed.
THIS WEEK
I have a Zoom call on Tuesday but I think that’s the only actually scheduled event I have this week. I hope to get another blog post done (I’m working on a post about hobbies). Sunday is Easter and I’d really like to go to church. I’ve invited my mom to join us for Easter dinner. I haven’t heard if there’s to be an Easter egg hunt for Charlotte. Maybe Saturday?
I need to put out my Easter decor.
Since this week looks to be a bit less busy I’m hopeful that I can get some spring cleaning done. Fingers crossed!
READING
I am almost finished with The Women of Mulberry Lane. I’ll then move on to number six in the series:
Other books ongoing…
The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady ~ Edith Holden
An Incomplete Education ~ Judy Jones and William Wilson
I’m still plugging along with last month’s LWD Book Club selection, Miss Eliza’s English Kitchen. I generally read this one in bed at night but we’ve been going to bed so late that I fall asleep after just a chapter or two. I should bring my Kindle downstairs and get it finished in the next couple of evenings before we go to bed.
If you don’t already have Audible, you can get a free trial here. We’ve definitely been enjoying it on long drives.
SELF CARE
I need to color my hair and give myself a manicure and pedicure this week.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I’m doing pretty well getting back into my morning exercise routine. I’m happy to report I did 8 pushups this morning! I want to start implementing a 10 minute walk ever morning, as well.
FUN ACTIVITIES
I’ll watch a movie with Chris on Thursday night. David and I missed our “Cocktails and The O.C.” this past Friday so hopefully we’ll do it this week. That’s all I have planned at the moment but I’d like to think of something else.
HABIT OF THE MONTH (March)
The LWD March Challenge is to begin a daily journal practice. And if this is already a habit, consider adding something to it or changing it up in some way. I’ll be sharing some ideas in the Facebook group throughout the month and if you want to share something about how you journal, please feel free to do so in the group or email me.
If you aren’t already in the group, here is the link:
