This Week With Dee – where I share our menu, my planned home tasks for the week, what I’m reading, self care plans and more. I hope it will give you some ideas for planning your own week or at least a glimpse of one homemaker’s life.

THIS WEEK WITH DEE
I’m getting a rather late start on today’s post. My mom went to the E.R. during the night (she’s okay) and I’ve been on the phone with her for quite awhile today. Now I need to get in high gear and tackle my to-do list!
Let’s set a happy mood with this Cheerful Morning Playlist, shall we?
(*Note: This playlist started out well enough but then it spun off into a direction I hadn’t expected. Sorry about that. I’ll find something better next week!)
When I made this week’s menu I was under the impression David and I would be leaving on another business trip either Sunday or Monday and I wanted to use up things we had on hand without a grocery order. However, we found out today that the trip will be postponed. No idea when it will take place just yet. Guess I have to stay flexible.
I thought I would make Mediterranean Turkey Skillet tonight, a recipe I’ve made at least a couple of times. But late last night when I went to get the ground turkey out of the freezer to start thawing in the fridge, I discovered I don’t have any. So “Plan B” is to adapt the recipe to a vegetarian version. It already contains black beans so I think it will be just fine without the turkey. As I recall, it made way more than the three of us could eat anyway.

IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
We went to Oklahoma City Wednesday evening and had a perfectly lovely dinner at Red Rock Canyon Grill on Lake Hefner. They don’t take reservations so we had a bit of a wait. But they have an outdoor bar area so we had cocktails and an appetizer while waiting for our table on the patio. The weather was just right and watching the sun set over the lake as we ate was so nice. The food was great and we shared a delicious dessert.
We then went to our hotel which is about a mile from where David’s eye appointment was the next morning at 8 a.m. He left me at the hotel while he went to his appointment. We had hoped to visit our dear friend but it got chilly and started raining. Not conducive to a visit outdoors. We are watching for another good opportunity to visit her soon. We did run by Trader Joe’s. I had a short list of about 5 items I wanted, including some fresh flowers for myself. I so wish we had a Trader Joe’s in our town as their flowers are so nice and such a great price.
Friday was Cinco de Mayo and around 1 p.m. I asked David if he was busy. He was at a point in his work where he couldn’t proceed until he heard back from a couple of people. I suggested we go to our favorite local Mexican restaurant for a late lunch on the patio and he agreed. We had the patio to ourselves and enjoyed fajitas and margaritas.
We then dropped off the birthday outfit I’d bought for our granddaughter and visited with them about 20-30 minutes. What a nice little break in the day!
On Saturday we celebrated Charlotte’s 2nd birthday with a little family party on our back patio. We bought her a Little Tykes playhouse which she loved but her favorite part of the day was riding with “Grandpa” on his “tractor” (riding mower). They rode around for 30-45 minutes. I have a hunch Grandpa enjoyed it every bit as much as the little one. 😉
Look at that face!
Her outfit had a cute tutu but she didn’t keep that part on very long. And the Minnie Mouse ears? Nope – ha!
Can you tell how happy Grandpa is? And after she had made a round or two she was loving it!
THIS WEEK
Since our trip has been postponed I’d like to do at least a couple of decluttering/organizing projects this week. David is getting pretty close to finishing the new flowerbeds across the front of the house. As soon as they are done then my part begins – choosing hedges/bushes and planting flowers. I’m hopeful we can get this all done before our trip finally occurs. Our weather is pretty nice right now but before we turn around twice it will be hot. I’m hopeful that we can get the plantings established before the heat hits.
Since we won’t be going on our trip next week I’ll get a grocery order on Friday. I’ll try to keep perishable items to what we can use in a week or 10 days in case we go the following week. One day this week I’ll do a thorough refrigerator cleaning.
WORK
My work goal this week is to finish getting all my blog-related social media posts scheduled for the rest of this month. I also have a few Zoom calls.
READING
I finished Sensitive, April’s LWD Book Club selection:
I am almost done with the May selection for the LWD Book Club:
LWD Book Club ~ Financially Chic
I haven’t mentioned it recently but I’m still listening to the January 2023 book club selection – One Year to an Organized Life. It’s about 14 hours long and since I’m not in the car a lot, it’s taking me awhile to finish. I’m about half way through it.
SELF CARE
My self care goal for last week was to give myself a manicure and a pedicure. I’m pleased to report I did both. 🙂
This week I need to color my hair. I ordered the box of color from Amazon and it’s here for whenever I get around to it.
HEALTH & FITNESS
Last week I said I planned to get on the treadmill for 10 minutes a day. Did I do that? Nope. So let’s try again this week!
FUN ACTIVITIES
I think I’ll start a puzzle this week. I bought this one a year ago and have yet to start it:
I’ve been putting it off until David could make me a puzzle board. We have a nice, wood card table in our family room but I didn’t want to monopolize it with a puzzle in case we wanted to play cards or a game on it. But I think I’ll just put a piece of poster board on the table so we can lift it off if need be.
This is something like what I want David to build me:
He really enjoys woodworking but considering how many other projects he has lined up, perhaps I should just buy this. We’ll see…
HABIT OF THE MONTH (May)
My habit of the month for May is going to bed early enough to be up by 7:30 a.m. Like the treadmill thing, I’m still working on it. 😉

Sounds like it was a pretty good week, despite the um-cooperative weather and changes to some plans. Hope you can make that trip you planned some time soon.
I ended up too tired to make it to a couple of the crafting Zoom calls I wanted to make it to last week, but otherwise my week went to plan. I even got all laundry done, including washing and putting away the Winter bedding in favour of the stuff we use in warmer weather.
This week I want to do a bit of organizing in the kitchen, have a Zoom call I either want or need to be at every day (two on Tuesday, actually) and we have a replacement fridge-freezer coming for hubby’s stuff on Friday since his isn’t working properly so we thought we better replace it before it completely died.
I’m reading “The Borrowers Avenged” by Mary Norton, “Villette” by Charlotte Bronte, and “After The Bite” by Lynsey Sans (at least, I think that’s how her name is spelled; can’t be bothered to go check on that).

Well done with all the laundry! Hope the fridge delivery goes smoothly on Friday. It’s definitely wise to replace before it dies. Our son’s fridge his on its last legs and he really should replace it. It isn’t much of a priority for him, though, because he doesn’t keep much of anything in it. He eats with us – ha!
Tori says
That does make things easier in your case. LOL! Hubby’s is used for all his food though, as well as the meat we cook up for the dogs, and is a larger fridge-freezer than mine, so it dying would be a problem.
