I’m rather behind in sharing my grocery hauls so you’re getting a 2-for-1 special today. And just barely before I do another grocery haul in a couple of days! Does anyone else feel like all you do is buy groceries, cook and wash dishes? I’m going to just go ahead and admit it — I miss restaurants. Especially the part where someone else does the dishes.

I also tried grocery pick up from Pruett’s, a regional grocery chain mainly because I needed chow mein noodles for the sweet and sour meatballs David had requested for his birthday the next day. Aldi doesn’t carry them. Plus, I’ve just been wanting to see how they handled things. I couldn’t have been more impressed!
My “shopper” was Amanda. She contacted me via text when she received my order and started shopping. When she was done she texted me with very clear instructions. I was so pleased that she was wearing a mask when she brought the groceries out to my car. She also left a small gift bag in the back of my car with a thank you card and four candy bars as a little gift. I’ll definitely be using the service again in the future. They are quite a bit more expensive than Aldi’s but they carry a larger range of items. I’ll continue to do the bulk of my shopping at Aldi (via Instacart) and fill in with extra items at Pruett’s.

Yes, I do feel like I’m forever dealing with meal-related stuff. Food prep, cooking, cleaning up and doing dishes afterwards… I don’t mind the cooking so much, but I could do without the dishes that’s for sure. I swear I just get them done as it’s time to deal with the next meal and there are more again. *sigh*
Anyway, those are a couple of great grocery hauls. I’m glad you’re finding the service good. I managed to get a slot from one of our supermarkets, which I hadn’t been bothering to try and do, but we’re out of a few things we struggle to get anywhere else, so we’ve got a shop coming on Sunday. I wouldn’t normally do a Sunday delivery, but it was the only available slot when I checked, and I had to book it two weeks in advance as it was… Beggars can’t be choosers and all that.
Tori says
Oh, and happy anniversary. 🙂
Deanna Piercy says
Thank you!
Deanna Piercy says
I’m totally with you about the dishes. I mean, if I do a good job cleaning as I go and David helps me it usually isn’t a big deal. But it certainly gets monotonous.
Two weeks in advance! Wow. I wonder if more people are being careful and utilizing that service in your area than here. It seems I’m now one of the few who is still be cautious around here. Everyone is out and about, no masks, just acting like the virus disappeared. Yet our numbers are rising.
Tori says
Oh, there are plenty of people out and about here. Some were even during full lockdown, and others acted like easing lockdown meant they could go about their business as normal. But visits to the stores take so long these days that many people are still using the delivery service to avoid having to line up for who knows how long to get in, etc. Since slots are always limited – even before all this you sometimes had to book a few days in advance to guarantee your shopping would be able to come on the time and day you want it – even just a handful of people still being cautious, and a few more not wanting the hastle of a trip to the supermarket, is enough to fill the slots quickly. At least I could get a slot. Back in April even logging on to the site to attempt to shop was tough (I was something like 1,000th in the queue to log on one time) and nine times out of ten by the time you did get on the site there weren’t even any slots available on the furthest day the calender would show (I even tried being up in the early hours of the morning to check for slots as soon as the date moved on a day on the calender, and even then couldn’t get one). So the fact any slot at all was available is an improvement, regardless of how far in advance it had to be booked.
Deanna Piercy says
Wow, that is nuts. 1000th in queue? I doubt they’ve even done that many deliveries total in our small town. Most people didn’t seem to mind going inside the stores and they were only half-heartedly trying to limit numbers inside. I don’t think there are any restrictions at all now. Unfortunately our COVID-19 numbers are rising here, though. I just wish everyone would be careful so we could get past this.

Things here in the England things are easing up know. I went clothes shopping for the first time in months ( needed a new cotton knit jumper , mine has a hole in from gardening). Most people had masks on and gloves. The staff were very good in keeping everyone in a one way route. But some people were buying as if we had been in lockdown for years not months.
Food shopping has been quite easy, with even the large shops only allowing a few in, if you timed it right you didn’t have long to wait.
Deanna Piercy says
I must admit I’m a bit envious of the places where people are actually trying to be careful when out and about. I’ve been very grateful for online shopping and grocery delivery since almost no one around here is wearing a mask or even pretending to be careful.
