Yesterday Lisa and I did our big monthly shopping trip to Norman and Oklahoma City. I tried to write this post late last night but our Internet was creeping along at a snail’s pace so I gave up trying to load pictures. I had a noon meeting today and a hair appointment after that and I’ve got to go back to town in just a bit for choir rehearsal. So, this will be short and sweet. (*I didn’t get this finished before I had to go to choir.)
We dropped off our glass recycling in Norman and then made a fairly quick stop at the Homeland grocery store because they had a few sale items we wanted to take advantage of. The most important one for me was the Gulf shrimp on sale for only $3.99 a pound. I bought three packages for the freezer and since I’m the only one who eats them this will provide quite a few meals for me on the nights when David is out of town. I love to cook them in a sweet and spicy sauce and serve over cheese grits. Yum!
We then met up with Audrey, Lisa’s best friend from childhood, for a delicious lunch at the Pink Elephant Cafe and Tres Cantina. The last time we ate there we had an incredible cheesy potato soup made with smoked gouda. Lisa is friends with the owner and asked a few days ago if there was any chance they might make that their soup of the day on our shopping day. It’s good to develop relationships with folks because then you get yummy smoked gouda soup. 🙂
Next up was Dodson’s. Then we headed to Oklahoma City for some shopping at Whole Foods. We were both rather taken with the beautiful display of pumpkins and gourds. I tried to get Lisa to let me take her picture here:
A little Whole Foods humor
Gorgeous produce!
My cart part way through the shopping
How many groceries can you stuff in a Prius?
And in the backseat
We then tried a new-to-us store…Sprouts. There were a few good sales. For instance, I got organic bell peppers for 77 cents each. They also had a special deal where you got 20% off any frozen food – as much as would fit in one paper grocery bag. We both bought frozen fruits and veggies which are the sort of thing that doesn’t go on sale all that often.
After all that shopping we decided we deserved a treat from Green Goodies:
Banana pudding cupcake
It was a long day but the hardest part was yet to come – putting it all away!
Decorations for now, food later
Part one (if you go to the link you can see what each item is)
Part two – I may have gotten a bit carried away with the produce
And this is what my fridge looks like. I’ve got some serious organizing to do!
Yes, I know I’m a day behind. Hopefully I will be able to catch up tomorrow but I won’t stake my life on it.
*After I posted this I saw that Lisa had written a post about our trip, too. Here is the link to her version of our day:
