California, here I come…
My dear uncle suffered a serious injury while in Hawaii last week and is having surgery today to repair a crushed tibia. My aunt asked if I would come help her take care of him and I was happy to oblige. I leave tomorrow and will return late next week.
David was perfectly fine with me going — he is very close to this aunt and uncle of mine — but he is starting to feel a bit lost already. For one thing, he is nervous about me flying without him. Nevermind the fact that he travels pretty often for business and leaves me here worrying about him. You know, that ol’ *shoe on the other foot* thing. I think it is also dawning on him that there is a fair amount of slack he will have to take up without me here. He has become quite accustomed to me keeping the household running while he brings home the bacon. It’s not that he doesn’t occasionally help me out with a task here or there but he is not used to keeping up with all the details or remembering that something needs to be done. He has asked me to make him a list to follow. I’m pretty sure he will wait until just before I come home to do much real cleaning but as long as he keeps all the animals and plants alive and cared for, I guess that will be good enough. I just hope no one drops by to visit while I am gone. Or that if they do, he makes it very clear that he is the one currently responsible for the state of the house.
