Last week David found out that one of his employees needed open heart surgery. This man and his wife are team drivers and happened to be several hours from home when a trip to the E.R. for an irregular heartbeat landed him in the hospital. Further tests led to the discovery of a blockage that would require a triple bypass. With no family members able to be there, David decided we would go and sit with the wife during the surgery. He called me Wednesday morning and asked if I’d go to Joplin with him that afternoon and of course, I said I would. The surgery was to be the next day so we thought we’d head home as soon as it was over and we knew he was okay. As it turns out, we ended up there another night but the surgery went well and he should make a full recovery.
This couple was absolutely astounded that their boss would drive 4.5 hours each way in order to be with them but it didn’t surprise me one bit. David might look like a hippie with his long hair, earrings and tattoos but he’s one of the most caring and decent people I know. I’m proud to be his wife.
