I’m hoping to make it to town tomorrow for a few items but we’re doing well with what we have on hand. This has been a good challenge for me as I see a couple of things I ought to stock up on. The first is Earl Grey teabags. I ran out of my favorite Bigelow brand a couple of days ago and have been using Stash organic Earl Grey and green tea bags. They are fine but not my absolute favorite.
The other thing I’ve run out of is cheese. I need to keep some in the freezer. I know the texture gets a bit crumbly after freezing but it’s still fine to melt on top of a casserole or something. While trying to figure out what to make tonight, I had to discard several ideas for lack of cheese.
I ended up making jambalaya with andouille sausage and tiny shrimp from the freezer (no chicken like I usually include). I used the three huge baking potatoes David bought the other night to make potato salad. I had enough leftovers for lunches tomorrow.
I pulled out my long neglected sourdough starter from the fridge yesterday, fed it and attempted to make bread from it. It never did rise well. Probably a combination of a lack of *oomph* and the chilly temperatures. I’ll add some yeast to the starter and see if I can revive it.
