Grocery Haul ~ First Week of July

July 3, 2025 By Deanna Piercy 2 Comments

Welcome to the first week of July’s LWD Grocery Haul series in which I share our weekly grocery purchases, including prices. I’m always curious to see what others purchase and what food prices are in different countries or regions. I hope you are finding this series interesting and helpful.

LWD GROCERY HAUL
July 2025 ~ Week One

Pantry Challenge Month

I’m starting a pantry challenge for the month of July. My freezers are packed and my pantry is stuffed. I’d like to use up some excess, defrost the chest freezer, do a an inventory and make a fall/winter stock up list sometime in August or early September.

For the most part, I’m limiting my grocery purchases to fresh produce, dairy, bread and a handful of items we use weekly. I’ll also replace items when we open the last one, especially if it’s on sale as was the case this week with relish. I used the last of a jar when making potato salad this past Sunday and opened my last jar from the pantry. I could have waited to replace it but it was on sale so I went ahead and bought a jar.

I also bought a 20-pack of Coke because it was a really good sale. David and I rarely drink pop but when it’s really hot and I’ve been cleaning house or working in the yard, an ice cold Coke sometimes hits the spot. And Chris is happy to find a chilled can in the fridge once in awhile. This will last us well through the warm months. I may also treat us to Classic Old Fashioned Chocolate Cokes one of these days.

If you would like to join me in a pantry/freezer challenge this month, I’d love to hear about your meals and how you are getting creative with them. I will *try* to share photos of our meals on Instagram and in the Life With Dee Facebook group.

I was almost out of kitchen trash bags and since I’m trying to avoid Amazon, I decided to try the ones from Costco. I was almost out of plastic wrap and getting low on oil (I fry a lot of tacos!). In order to get free shipping I needed to reach a minimum so I bought a few other things I’ve had on my Costco list. David eats instant oatmeal every morning so that was a no-brainer.

I found a bunch of recipes using the pancake mix that I’d like to try. My mom really likes muffins and I can make them for her for a LOT less than the pre-made ones I’ve been buying for her at the grocery store. I’d like to experiment with some extra ingredients to make them a bit more nutritious since she eats so poorly. If you have any suggestions I’d love to hear them.

And finally…a treat for me…Biscoff cookies. I love these and really enjoy having a couple of them with my evening cup of tea. They are just lightly sweet and make a perfect accompaniment. And this is a great price!

Costco:

  • Krusteaz complete pancake mix (10 lb.) $9.99
  • Kirkland Signature canola oil (2@ 3 qt. each) $12.99
  • Quaker Instant Oatmeal, variety pack (52 count) $13.99
  • Kirkland Signature kitchen trash bags (200 count) $20.99
  • Kirkland plastic wrap (2@ 750 ft. each) $14.99
  • Lotus Biscoff cookies (4@ 8.8 oz. each) $10.99

Subtotal: $83.94 (plus tax)

Total: $170.80

Our weekly menu…

Monday night we had jambalaya from the freezer. I had made potato salad Sunday night and purposely made enough for a second meal. Along with a small, baked loaf of French bread this made for an easy meal on “grocery day”.

Tuesday was another fairly easy dinner. I had leftover pulled pork from Sunday. I heated it up with a drained can of corn and served it in tacos. I also made some coleslaw to go with it.

Last night we were going to have Haluski but when my son, who is in town, asked if I’d like him to pick up dinner, that sounded like a good plan to me. I’ll either move the Haluski to Saturday instead of the soup and grilled cheese, or put it on next week’s menu.

Tonight I’m making spaghetti and meatballs. I have part of a package of frozen meatballs in the freezer. I’m not sure if I’ll use the whole bag or not. I may have enough for two meals out of it in which case I’ll make a stroganoff version next week. I have a box of frozen garlic bread in the freezer which was my original plan but since I have the second small loaf of French bread that we didn’t use with the Haluski last night, I’ll probably use that instead.

I put corn on the cob on the menu for tomorrow night with the idea that I’d either make it to the farmers market or drive to another town that has produce stands. That didn’t happen, though. I’ll probably makes some coleslaw instead.

I was just told today that next week likely is my last week of baby sitting for this summer. If that is true, then I’ll join you after this week is over and done! Otherwise, I’d been planning on starting a pantry/freezer challenge for August.

My pantry and freezer both are full and low if you know what I mean. I’m low on what I have on hand but there’s more than enough food to eat (hence FULL) and there are always those things that have gotten older than I’d meant to let them get before eating. I like to use up those bits first then finish off the challenge.

I’ll likely be continuing this challenge into August so there’s plenty of time to join in!
