Welcome to the first week of March’s LWD Grocery Haul series in which I share our weekly grocery purchases, including prices. I’m always curious to see what others purchase and what food prices are in different countries or regions. I hope you are finding this series interesting and helpful.

LWD GROCERY HAUL
March 2025 ~ Week One
I didn’t need very much from the grocery store this week although there were a few condiments I was out of all at once (worchestershire sauce, Kitchen Bouquet and minced garlic). Ever notice how that happens? And next week I’ll need to restock ketchup, mustard and relish.
I didn’t really need bacon but the sale price was so good I ordered a package for the freezer. Egg prices remain high but at least they are available at my local store. I am trying to keep a reasonable stock on hand in case there’s a week or two when they are unavailable.
The only meat I bought this week, aside from bacon for the freezer, was a 3 lb. whole chicken. I boiled it for the meat and broth necessary for the jambalaya. And just this moment I realize I failed to order a roast for our Sunday dinner. But that’s okay. I have a pork roast in the freezer which will do instead. In fact, I’ve been wanting pulled pork tacos so this will work out just fine.
I didn’t order any fresh fruit this week but we still have some grapes, oranges and a couple of bananas that need to be used up. I also have lots of frozen and canned fruit on hand.
Now that we are in the season of Lent I’ll be planning fish or vegetarian meals on Fridays. I have been wanting to make Tuna Noodle Casserole for some time so I figured that would be perfect for this first Friday. David’s not a huge fan of most fish but he does like tuna.

Our weekly menu…
Yesterday was Mardi Gras so instead of our usual Taco Tuesday I made another family favorite – jambalaya! It’s a rather messy and time-consuming meal along with homemade potato salad but oh, so worth it. It does make a lot, though. Chris took some for lunch today, I gave some to my son-in-law and we will be having it for dinner tonight.
Your Mardi Gras meal looks fantastic! I have been doing the same thing with eggs – buying a dozen occasionally even if I don’t need them in the moment. I think I have a total of 3 1/2 dozen now. Those Pete and Gerry eggs are great. I bought some at Uptown Grocery (also owned by Pruett’s) and I like them a lot. I have been making tuna casserole more regularly this winter ever since I found a yummy InstantPot recipe that I really love. It turns out so creamy and has dill added. With a little water added before reheating, the leftovers stay just as creamy.
The yolks are a nice dark yellow, very much like the eggs we got back when I raised chickens. If you get a chance, I’d like to see the link to the IP tuna casserole recipe, please.
