Welcome to the first week of November’s LWD Grocery Haul series in which I share our weekly grocery purchases, including prices. I’m always curious to see what others purchase and what food prices are in different countries or regions. I hope you are finding this series interesting and helpful.
LWD GROCERY HAUL
November 2025 ~ Week One
Our local grocery store had an excellent sale on meat so David and I cleaned out and defrosted the chest freezer last weekend to make room. This was a chore I’d been putting off for longer than I care to admit but when David offered to help I knew this was my opportunity. I don’t even want to think about how much old and freezer-burned food was buried at the bottom that we threw away. I feel awful about food waste but am determined to do a better job managing the inventory in the freezer going forward.
This week’s shopping bill was a lot higher than usual because I took advantage of the meat sale. It took me close to an hour to get the meat divided up and ready for the freezer. I vacuum-sealed part of it but ran out of bags. The rest went into freezer zipper bags. We now have several weeks’ worth of pork, chicken breasts and some beef. They didn’t have ground beef on sale so I’ll be watching for a sale on that. I also plan to buy a couple of bone-in turkey breasts from Aldi next week.
One purchase this week that I regret is the Twinkies. As we were cleaning out the freezer I found a single Twinkie that was squished flat. I offered it to David but he declined – ha! Then later that day as I was going through the sale items online for my grocery order I saw that they had Twinkies on sale for $2.99 instead of $4.99. I can’t remember the last time I bought Twinkies so I bought them. Did they used to taste better? I thought these were pretty awful. I don’t know if the product has changed or my taste buds have. Let’s just say, I won’t be buying them again, no matter how good the sale.

Hi Dee
Thank you for sharing your posts….. I have been an avid fan for years.
So, I love in a small town in Yorkshire, England and I absolutely love to read about your shopping trips. I have to admit that I sometimes google the items, especially “Twinkies” ….. so sad to hear they were a disappointment…. Sometimes things never taste the same as we remember.
Have a wonderful holiday and I forward to reading updates in 2026
Hi Gail! Thanks for nice comment. I’m as interested in British shopping trips as you are in ours. I may be nosy (I prefer “curious”) but I love seeing what other people buy, especially in other countries. As for the Twinkies, you certainly aren’t missing anything – ha! Although I do think they were different when I was a kid. One of my brothers and a cousin who lived next door especially loved them. In fact, for many years it was their tradition to share a box of Twinkies on New Year’s Eve.
All the best to you and yours this holiday season!
