Grocery Haul ~ Fourth Week of August

August 25, 2025 By Deanna Piercy Leave a Comment

Welcome to the fourth week of August’s LWD Grocery Haul series in which I share our weekly grocery purchases, including prices. I’m always curious to see what others purchase and what food prices are in different countries or regions. I hope you are finding this series interesting and helpful.

August 2025 ~ Week Four

Pantry/Freezer Challenge Month Update

I keep chipping away at my pantry and freezers. Most of our meals last week used items I already had on hand.

This week I bought a couple of treat items that were on sale – cream cheese frosting and lemon bars. I usually make these from scratch but it never hurts to have a few easy things in the baking cupboard.

I already had an extra mayonnaise in the pantry but since it was on sale, I picked up an extra one.

The best buy this week was $6.99 for 20 pounds of potatoes! I offered some to my daughter but she had just bought 10 pounds herself. I’ll check with Matt and Joy to see if they can use some. I plan to make a big batch of mashed potatoes to freeze in meal-size portions, some for my mom with grated cheese on top for her freezer, and some twice-baked potatoes for the freezer.

Our Sunday night dinner plan on my menu says omelets, toast and orange juice. However, they had Pillsbury orange rolls on sale which is a family favorite so I’ll be upgrading that toast part of the meal.

The only meat I bought this week was a package of bacon (on sale) for BLTs this weekend and some smoked sausage (also on sale). I put the sausage in the freezer. I’m pretty sure I have a box of Zatarain’s jambalaya or red beans and rice in the pantry so that will make an easy meal one of these days soon. I already had pork chops in the freezer for Friday night’s dinner.

FEATURED RECIPE…

Instead of our usual tacos on Tuesday, I’m making Taco Frito Salad. We have a Zoom call at 7 p.m. for our nonprofit and there is a lot less cleanup than tacos. Plus, it’s delicious and we haven’t had it in awhile! Bonus: Fritos were on sale this week.
