My favorite Christmas movie is the classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Ever since the kids were very young we have had a tradition of watching it together as soon as we get the tree up. It’s one of my very favorite things we do as a family.
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned on Facebook that I’d love to see it in a theater. Well, it just so happens that a friend saw my comment and told me that it was going to be shown in the beautifully restored McSwain Theater here in our town. I was ridiculously excited.
We got home late last night from New Orleans (more about our trip in the coming days) and I hit the road running today with a 10 a.m. meeting, hair appointment, errands and grocery shopping but despite being tired, David and I went to see the movie tonight anyway. It was the best $10 we’ve spent in a long time. That’s right. Tickets for two, plus popcorn and a drink for each of us was only $10.
We had never seen the color version and while I’m pretty much a traditionalist when it comes to classic, black and white movies, I must admit it was fun to see it in color on a big screen. I’ve always wanted to see the flowers in color, as well as home interior details. Yeah, I’m one of those who checks out interior design in every movie or television show I watch.
As always, I was wiping away the tears at the end. This has to be one of the most heart-warming films of all time and I never tire of its message.
