Christmas events begin this week for us. We are putting up the tree, attending a Christmas parade and I’m taking my daughter to a Christmas tea in the city. Fun! But also busy. From here on out, this month’s meals are likely to be simple as we make time for fun.
DEE’S MENU
Monday
I cooked a belated Thanksgiving meal for the kids and my mom (Dad wasn’t feeling up to it) on Saturday so I have some leftovers to use up.
- Turkey and Noodles (using leftover turkey bones, gravy and thickened with leftover mashed potatoes)
- Brioche rolls (leftover from our Saturday dinner)
Tuesday
If all goes according to plan, we are going to put up the Christmas tree this evening. Our usual tradition is to then watch “It’s a Wonderful Life”. However, a local theater is showing the movie later this month and we plan to attend. Instead, we will watch “A Christmas Story”. And what better to eat with that than Chinese food, right? I don’t know yet if I’ll make it myself or buy it from a local Chinese restaurant.
Wednesday
We have a couple of things going on this evening, including dinner with friends.
Thursday
This is the night of our town’s Christmas parade. That means we need to eat early. I think a slow cooker meal will make that easier.
- roast in slow cooker
- potatoes, carrots, onions
- salad
- steamed broccoli
Friday
- burritos made with leftover roast beef
- Mexican rice
- chips and salsa
Saturday
I’m taking my daughter to the city for some Christmas shopping and a special Christmas tea at our favorite hotel, The Skirvin. There’s a benefit show that David will probably attend, at least for a bit. Looks like we’ll be on our own for dinner as our scheduled activities will overlap.
Sunday
Mexican food after church and save half for dinner.
What’s cooking at YOUR house this week?

Sounds like you have a fun – though extremely busy – week ahead of you.
I’ve sort of let the menu thing slide. OK. Fine. No sort of about it. We had a couple of weeks where every time I made a menu I had to basically scrap it because it didn’t fit with other plans, so I kind of gave up.
As for Christmas stuff… I’m behind this year. I’ve usually done most – if not all – my shopping by now, and got the cards I send sorted and sent out. But I’ve hardly started the shopping, and haven’t given the cards more than a passing thought. I’m hoping to fix that during the next few days, but since I’m waiting for someone to come and finish a rewiring job at this very moment – after having spent most of last week waiting for the same guys – I haven’t figured out exactly when it will get sorted.

I ordered a number of gifts this weekend but I’m not done. I have given myself a deadline of December 11 for mailing cards. If I don’t get my usual newsletter written, the cards are just going out without a letter. Every year I say I’m going to get things done earlier and then fall ends up being hectic. Oh, well. The important things will get done. They always do.

Yeah, it always comes together in the end… Somehow! 😉
