Favorite Travel Accessory ~ Makeup Case
In the past I’ve used a sort of piecemeal system of packing makeup for travel. Brushes and small items went in a drawstring bag and other items in a hanging toiletry bag. This wasn’t very convenient, especially in hotel bathrooms with little counter space.
I either had to dump everything out of the bag and replace it after each use or put brushes in a cup and other items just out on the counter. I like to keep our space relatively neat when traveling so it was always a choice between neat or convenient.
That’s why I was intrigued when one of my favorite bloggers/podcasters – Tonya Leigh – mentioned a travel makeup case she was crazy about. I found it on Amazon and ordered it for our trip to Belize.
After using it during our recent vacation I can honestly say I love it!
Features
It has four pockets in the lid which easily held my makeup brushes, eyeliner and mascara:
The main section has removable dividers so you can customize it to fit your needs. It has plenty of room for foundation, blush, eye shadow, eyelash curler, and lipsticks. I was also able to put a small jar of coconut oil, moisturizer, travel size deodorant and a travel size of lotion in it.
Make sure lids are on tightly and place coconut oil and moisturizer in ziplock bags.
With the lid open it was easy to access each item as I applied makeup. Afterwards I could just zip the case and all was neat and contained.
This is truly one of the best travel accessories I’ve ever purchased.
I was especially happy with it when, on our way home from Belize, TSA opened my suitcase, searched it thoroughly and then failed to close the zipper.
A few years ago I bought a set of packing cubes which I always use. All of my clothes were in these cubes, toiletries were in a zippered hanging toiletry bag and makeup was in my new makeup case. The only loose items were my sun hat and a tapestry I had bought in Belize which was in a plastic bag.
The makeup case and toiletry bag came around the carousel in a plastic container along with my open suitcase. I can only imagine what a mess it could have been but with everything contained it was merely annoying. Okay, VERY annoying but it could have been worse. At least I didn’t have to try to retrieve everything from makeup brushes to underwear from the carousel while other passengers looked on with amusement.
Helpful hint:
Pack carefully, even on the way home!

Hey Deanna! I have been looking for a makeup case just like this and it’s def on my wish list now 🙂 But I’ve also been thinking about getting packing cubes. I’ve heard you talk about them before but I’d like to see you do a post on how you use them. Do you separate by type? outfit? day of trip? I’d love to see your method 🙂 Keep up the great work. You’re so awesome!
I can’t say enough about how great that makeup case is. Sounds silly but it changed my life on our last trip to Belize. Thanks for the idea of doing a post on packing cubes. I generally separate by type of clothing, plus one for our travel day if we stay in a different place on the way. For instance, when we go to Belize our flight leaves from OKC at 6 a.m. We stay in a hotel the night before so I put my travel clothes in one cube so I don’t have to dig through my whole suitcase. Thanks so much for your kind comments. We miss you and Jack!
