Some years it takes me awhile to come up with my “Word of the Year” but this year I knew it immediately. I feel as though I’ve spent enough time “consuming” and I’m ready to flip the script. My word of the year for 2023 is “create”. I’m ready to focus on creation this year.

My 2023 Word of the Year:
Create
It’s all too easy to consume in today’s society. Whether it’s products we purchase or content we take in online, consuming the creations of other people can take over our lives.
I want to change that in 2023!
I will be consuming social media content far less and creating more to share.
I will bake bread and make yogurt at home…at least part of the time.
I will plant a vegetable garden.
I will create a “zen garden”.
I will pursue a few writing projects which I’m keeping under wraps until they are completed.
And who knows what else? I’m open to suggestions!
SYMBOL OF THE YEAR
Last year was my first time to choose a symbol of the year. This year I’ve chosen the lotus flower. I’m really tempted to buy these prints for my office:

I love the word you have chosen! I found myself being too much of a consumer last year, and I also hope to make a change for the better this year in regards to that. Happy New Year!

I think it’s a temptation for most of us these days. There’s just so much content to consume!
Happy New Year!
Tori says
Love both your word and symbol for the year.
I’m not picking one this year, or setting goals. I have some hopes for the year, but mostly I feel like neither are things I want to do this year.
Deanna Piercy says
The past three years have been so out of the ordinary that hope is probably the best we can do.
Meesha says
Hi Deanna!
I was so surprised to see that your word of the year is ” Create”. It’s the same word I chose for this year. I chose it because this is the year I want to get back to creating a life that I love, which is far from mainstream. I want to create my circle of friends based on my values and interests. I want to create art and products for my home. I also want to learn how to illustrate and write a children’s book. This is the year for no excuses, This is my year to create.
Deanna Piercy says
Oh, that all sounds wonderful! I’ve had a children’s book idea on the back burner for years. Please keep me posted about yours!
