Stuffing Topped Pork Chops
I love a meal that can be prepared in a casserole or baking dish and tucked away in the oven to finish cooking. This gives me time to wash pots and return the kitchen to “CLEAN” status before we eat. Stuffing Topped Pork Chops is a perfect example. While they bake in the oven, I can wash the skillet and saucepan used to prepare them and cook a vegetable and/or make a salad. By the time the pork chops are done, we can sit down to a delicious meal knowing that the cleanup will be minimal.
And let’s not overlook the fact that these pork chops are SO GOOD!
Stuffing Topped Pork Chops
Ingredients
- 4-6 pork chops
- 1 box stuffing mix
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1-2 tsp. chicken bouillon powder
- 1 tsp. onion powder
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1-2 tbsp. olive oil
- flour and seasonings to taste
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
-
Season pork chops to taste and sprinkle with flour on both sides.
-
Brown pork chops in oil over medium high heat. No need to cook through, just brown lightly.
-
In medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter then stir in flour. Cook a couple of minutes, stirring constantly. Slowly pour in milk while stirring. Add chicken bouillon powder, garlic powder and onion powder. Stir and cook until thickened. It should be the consistency of thick gravy. If too thick, thin with additional milk or some chicken broth.
-
Make stuffing according to package directions.
-
In greased baking dish, place browned pork chops. Top with a layer of prepared stuffing and a couple of tablespoons of gravy mixture. Sprinkle with grated cheese.
-
Bake in preheated oven for approximately 20 minutes or until pork chops are 145 degrees internally.
Spoon any leftover stuffing and gravy around the pork chops before baking and serve alongside the pork chops. You may also sprinkle a little parsley on top before baking.
I served the pork chops with green beans cooked with bacon, onion and a little brown sugar. So good!
