THIS WEEK WITH DEE
Our weather has been quite nice. Well, other than the major storm which ripped through Oklahoma last night. Fortunately we didn’t sustain any damage but I know others in the state did. There is rain in the forecast the next few days but our daytime highs are in the 70s which is lovely. The leaves are starting to turn and it truly looks like fall.
Pour yourself a cup of tea or coffee and let’s listen to this Autumn Drive playlist as we take a look at the upcoming week.

IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
I did manage a few of the things on my list for last week. David and I went to Home Depot yesterday and I got two pots of mums, one of pansies, a couple of pumpkins and a big bag of tulip bulbs. They didn’t have the fern and African violets I had on my list, though. I hope to find time to pick up these at the local nursery.
David and I enjoyed a very pleasant evening Saturday night on our patio. He lit the fire table and we enjoyed about an hour and a half sipping our cocktails and listening to music. It was so peaceful!
Other than the mums and pumpkins, the only fall decorating I managed was to change out the pillow covers in the library for fall ones.
I have been needing better lighting for the piano and after much searching (why the heck are piano lamps so expensive?!) I found a lovely one at a reasonable price. It came last week and the light bulbs I ordered for it came a few days ago. I took everything off the top of the piano, gave it a good dusting, and rearranged to allow space for the lamp. It looks quite lovely and now I can see the music much better.
THIS WEEK
I have several Zoom meetings this week and we are prepping for the fundraiser on Saturday. In addition, I hope to get the fall decorating done.
I did a fairly large Aldi grocery order last week so this week I’ll just order some things from a local store that does pick up. They are more expensive than Aldi’s but they carry items I can’t get at Aldi’s. Speaking of expensive, are you noticing a big jump in some grocery prices in your area? Beef seems especially high. The sliced deli roast beef I occasionally splurge on had been $10.99 a pound which was certainly bad enough. It’s now $12.99 a pound. That’s quite a jump.
READING
This week I’ll be reading The Midnight Library: A Novel.
SELF CARE
Now that the weather is quite nice I want to spend more time outdoors. Specifically, I’d like to take my afternoon tea on the porch or patio. I also need to give myself a manicure and a pedicure.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I read an article about Helen Mirren and she shared the exercise routine she uses: The 12-minute Royal Canadian Air Force workout. I watched a video demonstrating it and I think it looks do-able. I’m going to give it a try this week.
FUN ACTIVITIES
We are hosting a fundraiser on Saturday with live music, auction, food, etc. Should be lots of fun!
Hopefully David and I can spend at least one or two evenings together on the patio listening to music.
HABIT OF THE WEEK
I’d like to institute time blocking to my daily routine.

Glad you were able to make a start on your Fall decorating, and find a piano lamp that was reasonably priced and you liked. Yes, I’ve noticed price increases. Some of the increases are small, so you only really notice if you pay close attention(an extra 10p or so here and there) but others are much bigger price jumps. Even between the time I first went vegan and now I’m noticing a difference, and most of what I shop for is veggies and fruit. Anyway, hope you’re enjoying “The Midnight Library” as much as I did, and that you’re getting in that self care time.
I managed to catch up on a lot of things, but am still super behind on my reading. At least my online tasks are caught up. That’s a start. And I’ve not done my seasonal decorating yet, but I did buy some maple leaf shaped lights for when I do. All in all, last week ended up being more productive than I expected, despite it taking until literally the end of the week for me to start feeling back to what counts as normal for me. And I even managed a relaxing Sunday afternoon with a book and a craft project while hubby was out gaming with my Dad.
This week I have Canadian Thanksgiving to acknowledge on Monday (had hoped to have those maple lights up before it rolled around, but never mind) and there are two birthdays I need to acknowledge this week too: Mollie the chinchilla on Tuesday the 12th, and one of my brothers on Saturday the 16th. Other than that I’ve got my Dad coming over Tuesday, roleplaying Wednesday, a trip to my Mam’s house to help her with something Thursday, Zoom book club Friday, and on the weekend we’re having Izabel (my Mam’s dog) for a puppy sleepover while she goes somewhere over night (she’s going to see her sister, niece, and great-nephew, and can’t take Izi because my Aunt’s dog doesn’t like other dogs, plus it’s not ideal since Izi would be spending a large chunk of both Saturday and Sunday in a car if she went with my Mam). I also got the first version of a new book published, and I have an interview going up on someone’s blog some time this week, but though I remember which blog, I can’t for the life of me remember exactly which day… I’m pretty sure it’s either Tuesday or Wednesday. Oh well, I subscribe to the blog anyhow, so I’ll get a notification when the post goes up, and can subscribe to the comments so I don’t miss any. Besides those things the plan is to try and catch up a bit with reading, and – if the dogs will allow me to – work on some crafting while doing so. It would be nice if I can start getting these Fall decorations up too, but considering everything I know I’ll be lucky if that happens this week. Unless the dogs are behaving and keeping each other busy on the weekend, in which case I might do it then. But there’s usually chaos with them racing around when Izi comes to visit, so I’m not holding my breath.
As for my menu:
Monday: garlic mashed potatoes, carrots, green beans, sweetcorn, onion gravy, and cranberry sauce.
Tuesday & Wednesday: vegetable stew with bread and butter.
Thursday & Friday: mushroom curry with jasmine rice.
Saturday: tofu scramble, hash browns, and baked beans.
Sunday: vegetable casserole.
Congratulations on the book! And happy birthday to Mollie and your brother. This sounds like a really full week for you. Hope it all goes well.
Thanks about the book, and for Mollie and my brother’s birthday wishes. Yes, a busy week for sure. So far it’s going OK, except for the accidental murdering of a slowcooker.
Uh, oh. I’ve had mine for ages and I’d really like one with more features. I almost hope mine will die – ha!
LOL!
