THIS WEEK WITH DEE
Well, our gorgeous weather went on hiatus. It got down near freezing last night and it’s only 44 degrees right now. At least it’s sunny and after a weekend of chilly rain, at least that’s an improvement. We have friends who are currently on vacation in Mexico. They sent us pictures, including one showing the temperature (84 degrees), told us to sell everything and we’d all move there. So very tempting…
But since that’s not in the cards just now I turned up the heater another degree and plugged in my therapy light.

IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
David and I went on a business trip last Saturday through Wednesday. He had business in Kentucky on Tuesday but we left early so we could have a little getaway in Arkansas first. We stayed at a B&B and he did a day-long fly fishing trip on Sunday. I enjoyed the sunshine and read on our balcony.
On our way home we got to do something I’ve been wanting to do for ages. We drove the Talimena Scenic Drive to see the fall foliage. It was a bit early for peak color but it was still gorgeous.
Thursday…
I did laundry. David and I then ran errands. He drove the rental car and I took mine. I picked up prescriptions and he dropped off recycling, paid a bill and dropped off something. We then met at the rental company and dropped off the car (we always take a rental car for business trips). It was after 1:30 and we were getting hungry. We drove through our favorite local burger place and enjoyed our lunch in the parking lot of the grocery store. After we ate I ran in and got groceries.
For dinner we had an easy meal of spaghetti, garlic cheese toast, peas, and salad.
Friday…
I did a bunch of email catching up, wrote a blog post, and did more laundry.
For dinner I took the leftover spaghetti sauce, mixed it with cooked elbow macaroni, topped with grated cheddar and parmesan then baked until bubbly. I served it with broccoli, leftover peas, salad and garlic cheese toast.
Saturday…
It was chilly, rainy and dreary. None of us felt like doing much of anything. I think David and Chris mostly watched movies. They also watched the USC game. I made the bed, did dishes, folded laundry, and wrote a blog post.
For dinner we had more leftovers.
Sunday…
David picked up sandwiches from Jimmy John’s for lunch and we each saved half for our dinner. I wrote our menu, started this post, scheduled social media, washed sheets and towels, watered indoor plants, and picked a handful of tomatoes before the freeze. It was another chilly, dreary day and we all basically hibernated.
THIS WEEK
I have a doctor appointment this afternoon. Tomorrow is Halloween and we plan to go trick-or-treating with Charlotte. It’s going to be chilly so I doubt it will last long.
NaNoWriMo starts Wednesday and I’m planning to do a writing project this month.
WORK
Lots and lots of writing! In addition to starting my NaNoWriMo project, I’ll also be working on a blog series.
READING
While on our recent road trip we started a new audiobook – Undaunted Courage: Meriweather Lewis, Thomas Jefferson and the Opening of the American West by Stephen Ambrose. Somehow we started taking about the Lewis and Clark expedition and decided to find an audiobook about it. It’s a 21 hour book so we haven’t finished it. We don’t have any upcoming road trips ahead so we need to make an effort to listen to it at home. Maybe a half hour or so each night before we go to bed?
I started the October LWD Book Club selection, The Echo of Old Books, while on our trip. It’s really good! I’m about half way through and hope to finish this week.
I finished The Power of Fun: How to Feel Alive Again by Catherine Price. I was reading this for an online book club. It was *okay*. I felt like it was geared more toward extraverts. Plus, so many of the examples of fun require the sort of activities we are not comfortable participating in during a pandemic. If you are more extraverted and aren’t being cautious about Covid, you might enjoy the book more than I did.
If you don’t already have Audible, you can get a free trial here. We’ve definitely been enjoying it on long drives.
SELF CARE
I discovered a British comedy this weekend that literally had me laughing out loud. It’s called “Hold the Sunset” and stars John Cleese. I watched a few episodes and because laughter is important, I plan to watch at least one each evening this week.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I’m trying to gradually implement more of the foods in Dr. Gregor’s “Daily Dozen“.
In case you missed it, here is the link to my recent grocery haul where I share more about the Daily Dozen:

FUN ACTIVITIES
Tomorrow is Halloween and we’ll go trick-or-treating with Charlotte. I don’t have any other specific plans but I will try to come up with something else fun to do. Maybe a fall movie and homemade cookies!
HABIT OF THE MONTH (NOVEMBER)
I adore music but must admit I haven’t been listening much in recent months. David and I both work from home and our home offices are directly across the hall from each other. He is on the phone fairly often and has a lot of conference calls. I don’t want my music to interfere. But I just bought myself a pair of noise cancelling headphones. They are much more comfortable than wearing earbuds. I am making a point to listen to music intentionally every day.
