THIS WEEK WITH DEE
If you celebrate Thanksgiving I hope you had a lovely holiday. And if you celebrate Hanukkah, may your candles burn bright this season. I generally hold off on Christmas celebrating until after Thanksgiving but now I’m ready to enjoy it. I’ll be decorating, buying gifts, writing our Christmas letter and sending cards, and watching Christmas movies. There’s a fair amount to do but I’m determined to take things at a reasonable pace and not get stressed out. The wild card in all this is the poor health of my parents. However, that is something beyond my control and I’ll just deal with it as best I can.
I decided to wait until next week’s “This Week” post for Christmas music. I’ll likely put on one of my Christmas playlists later this afternoon while cleaning house but for now, let’s enjoy some jazz.
MENU:
Monday…
We will be finishing off the last of the Thanksgiving turkey. Everything else was gone by Saturday night.
- turkey and sausage gumbo
- rice
- salad
Tuesday…
- lemon pepper chicken
- baked potatoes
- asparagus
- salad
Wednesday…
The weather is lovely this week so we’ll grill one more time before cleaning and covering the grill for the winter.
- grilled burgers
- french fries
- corn casserole (we loved the one I made for Thanksgiving and need a repeat)
Thursday…
- spaghetti and meatballs
- salad
- garlic toast
Friday…
- tilapia
- seasoned rice
- sugar snap peas
- candied carrots
- salad
Saturday…
We are providing Christmas music via our nonprofit for a couple of hours downtown before the Christmas parade. We’ll order takeout before we head home.
Sunday…
- breakfast-for-dinner
IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
I spent the better part of two days last week cooking for Thanksgiving. It was just the three of us although I did take plates of food to my parents. Yeah, it was probably overkill but it was so nice to enjoy leftovers the following three days. We also mostly relaxed during the 4 day holiday weekend. We saw our niece and nephew Friday at my parents and I did some shopping for my parents on Sunday. David mowed and mulched about three acres of leaves Sunday. But otherwise it was just a nice, quiet holiday.
THIS WEEK
I have a Zoom meeting early Tuesday morning and will be picking up a grocery order in the afternoon. On Wednesday my mom has a doctor appointment so I’ll go stay with my dad. Saturday is our town’s Christmas parade and our nonprofit is hosting a 5-piece jazz band playing Christmas music for a couple of hours in the afternoon before the parade.
My main household goals this week are to get the family room thoroughly dusted and vacuumed before putting up the Christmas tree. Hopefully we will do that on Sunday.
I also plan to get all of our Christmas gifts ordered this week and start writing our annual Christmas letter.
WORK
I’ll be promoting local Christmas events on all our social media and have plans for two more blog posts in addition to this one.
READING
I didn’t get very much reading done last week so I still have four books going. Hope to wrap them all up soon!
SELF CARE
Sleep! David and I have decided we should set the timer in the kitchen to go off at 9:30 p.m. One of us will have to get up to turn it off and hopefully we can then make ourselves go to bed. We now have a t.v. in our room and we watch two half-hour programs before going to sleep (well, HE goes to sleep and I read awhile). We’ve been watching Ted Lasso and The Dick Van Dyke Show. We just finished all of Ted Lasso (highly recommend!) so we are replacing it with The Kominsky Method. We watched the first episode last night and I think we will enjoy it.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I’ll be happy if I at least do my simple morning exercise routine and get on the treadmill a few times a week.
FUN ACTIVITIES
I want to start watching Christmas movies this week. What are your favorites?
HABIT OF THE WEEK
My morning routine has been sort of hit or miss lately. I want to be consistent about it.

Great menu! I had fun cooking for Thanksgiving too; we had four pies, a ham, and the usual sides. My husband and I have enjoyed watching Murder, She Wrote before bed lately, but we have to shut the door or our daughter across the hall gets scared!

I never got around to making pies – I did make a cake, though. I may just surprise my guys with a pie for no reason. 🙂

Sounds like last week was a pretty good week for you. Hope this week is too, your week goes to plan, and you can start the holiday festivities, but also have one more time using the grill before it has to be packed away.
My favourite holiday movie is “Santa Clause – The Movie” but there are several others I love too, including – but not limited to – Miracle On 34th Street, Prancer, The Muppets Christmas Carol, One Magic Christmas, The Polar Express, and The Grinch.
Last week was a very productive one for me, but an exhausting one due to my being in one of my sleep stages where I don’t get much sleep, no matter how tired I am. I got a bit of writing done, got a book pre-released for a couple of weeks time, organized audiobook narrators, participated in several Zoom calls, and did some roleplaying. Shame my reading is going incredibly slowly and I’m very behind on my reading goal for this year still. But never mind.
As for this week…
Monday: roleplaying. spicy veggie soup and bread for dinner.
Tuesday: gaming and dinner with Dad. roasted vegetables for dinner.
Wednesday: going to my Mam’s place to help her with a few things. Vegan poutine for dinner.
Thursday: it should be a quiet day, and I want to do some recordings for my YouTube channel, so I’m hoping to do those Thursday. I’ll throw some veggies in the slowcooker and make another kind of soup for dinner, which I’ll have with some bread.
Friday: writing time and Zoom book club. Leftovers from Thursday for dinner.
Saturday & Sunday: other than hubby going to gaming club Saturday, nothing much should be happening over the weekend, so I’m hoping for some quiet time to work on craft projects and catch up on my reading a bit. I’ve not decided what I’ll make for dinner, but I’ll make it Saturday, and make sure there are leftovers I can just heat up on Sunday.
