IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
That long trip really took it out of me. I spent much of last week in recovery mode. But I think I’m doing better now!
Last Wednesday was Ash Wednesday. Our church was open for an hour and a half around noon and again in the evening. Instead of the usual service we were invited to come during one of those times and do the imposition of ashes ourselves. We went at noon and then, because it was a gorgeous warm day we decided to have lunch on the patio of the Mexican restaurant we are going to again tonight. We aren’t dining indoors right now due to high Covid rates in our area, so when the weather begins to get nice we are very happy to have the opportunity to dine on a patio.
Friday evening we did a Zoom “cocktail party” with friends which is always fun.
On Sunday we finally took down the Christmas tree. We had already put up the lighted garland from the stairs, as well as the rest of the decorations. At this point I was glad I hadn’t gone all out with the Christmas decor this year! In fact, as we packed things away I organized it and marked boxes so that if next year is a “minimalist Christmas” I know which boxes we will need to get out of the garage instead of pulling them ALL out.
Our tree has glitter on it which looks beautiful but makes quite the mess. David and I took turns vacuuming the family room but I know we’ll still be finding glitter for months.
THIS WEEK
Other than dinner out tonight, I don’t think I have anything on my calendar this week. I do want to set aside some time to plan for a bit of spring cleaning.
As for housework, I’m doing one household task per day, aside from the usual daily upkeep (make bed, dishes, load of laundry, tidying).
- Monday is always the day I wash sheets, iron pillowcases and remake the bed. I watered some of my houseplants yesterday and will finish the rest today.
- Tuesday – clean upstairs bathroom (I did the downstairs bathroom this weekend)
- Wednesday – dust
- Thursday – vacuum
- Friday – day off
- Saturday – a spring cleaning task
- Sunday – water plants
WORK
I have a lot of blog work on the agenda this week. This year I started choosing a poet, artist, composer and classic film to share each month. I decided that rather than doing individual posts for each…and bombarding y’all with so many posts in one day!…I will do a combined “art appreciation” post. This post will come out on Wednesday, along with the monthly LWD Book Club selection. The other monthly post series I’ve been doing is “Vintage Menu”. I may wait and post that on Thursday, March 2nd.
I also have a couple of blog post drafts that are close to being done. Hopefully I can get one of those out on Friday.
And finally, the monthly LWD Newsletter goes out on the 1st, as well.
READING
I’m on track to finish this month’s LWD Poet book by Langston Hughes tomorrow morning.
I haven’t touched this month’s LWD Book Club selection, The Custom of the Country since we returned from our trip so I’m making that a priority this week.
I’m also keeping up with my daily morning books:
My morning books:
1. The Road to La Papillon: Daily Meditations on True Contentment by Shannon Ables
2. The Living Bible – The Book of Common Prayer daily lectionary readings
3. Daring to Be Yourself by Alexandra Stoddard
SELF CARE
I need to do a manicure and pedicure this week. I did my nails just before our recent trip so they are in need of a re-do.
HEALTH & FITNESS
David, Chris and I all decided to give up sugar for Lent. We aren’t going so far as to avoid it in things like jarred spaghetti sauce or bread. But we are giving up all candy, cookies, sweetened beverages (no Starbucks iced vanilla latte cold brews – sob!), etc. The one exception I’m going to make is for bread pudding once while we are in New Orleans the first part of April!
While this isn’t the purpose of Lent, I do hope that 40 days without sugar will break the habit.
FUN ACTIVITIES
As I mentioned, we are meeting friends for dinner at Potrillo’s Mexican restaurant early this evening. After we get home I’m going to watch ” A Raisin in the Sun”, February’s classic film selection. I had meant to watch it this weekend but it never happened.
I also want to set aside time to color and perhaps start a puzzle.
HABIT OF THE MONTH (March)
Rather than selecting a weekly habit as I’ve been doing, I’m choosing one for the month. After all, it takes at least 21 days to create a new habit, right? For March, I’m aiming to drink at least six cups of water every day. The first of those will be lemon water when I first get up in the morning.

I’m not surprised you ended up mostly in recovery mode last week. Glad you feel like you’re doing a bit better now at least.
Don’t know if you’re looking for feedback, but if you are: I like the idea of you combining things in to less posts. You could even do the bookclub on the 1st, the art appreciation one on the 2nd, and the vintage menu one on the third, so it’s just one post a day. Just a thought.
As for me…
I managed to mostly stick to my menu, and my week went to plan right up until Friday when I had to call in someone last minute to cover for me on a Zoom call (I was meant to be reading the daily schedule of ACB events on the first call for that day, which is my job on Friday, but had to call someone in from the backup crew to cover for me) while I took Logan to the vet. He’s doing a lot better after a quiet few days at home and the medication the vet gave us to settle his stomach, but I guess he hates crowded social situations even more than I do, since the petshop trip made him very sick from the stress of his social anxiety.
This week I have a lot going on today (Tuesday) but it’s otherwise a mostly quiet week, with just the routine stuff going on (housework, calls I attend regularly with the ACB, and that kind of thing). Today we’re making shortbread on the cooking call, and my Dad is coming over for a while.
As for my menu…
Menu for week starting February 27th.
Monday: herby roast potatoes with carrots and sprouts.
Tuesday: leftovers.
Wednesday: tofu omelette with fries and peas.
Thursday: vegetable stew with bread.
Friday: leftovers.
Saturday: pasta wit sauce.
Sunday: waffles with maple syrup and fruit.

I know you understand the need to recover. Thanks for the feedback on the posts. It would also make things easier for me not to have all those posts ready to go on the same day. I’m going to take your suggestion! The only issue is that they won’t all be posted before my newsletter goes out on the first. However, maybe I could push it back, too. Hmm…
I’m sorry that Logan had such a rough time. I hope he’s completely well soon.
Have a great week!
