IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
Monday…
I washed the sheets and remade the bed. I also folded some laundry I had done on Sunday, vacuumed the family room and did dishes. I did the usual Daily Admin tasks and wrote the “This Week” post.
It was a nice day so David grilled our hot dogs outdoors. They always taste so much better that way! I served them on toasted buns with French fries and salad.
Tuesday…
David and I each had a couple of errands so we ran them together. I needed to mail some cards and do a curbside pickup at Walgreens for some items for my mom. David picked up his new sunglasses from his eye doctor and some things he had ordered from the printing company for work. It was a nice day and we enjoyed the afternoon outing. After we were done we picked up iced coffees from Starbucks.
As soon as we got home I started cooking for my mom. I made a big pot of Fussy Eater Soup, Golden Touch Beans and candied yams. David had to run out to the mobile home behind her house that we’ve sold in order to pick up a piece of furniture that Chris put in his house so I hurried to have it all done by the time he needed to leave. Since we were going to be out of town a few days I wanted to make sure she had plenty of food on hand. I divided the soup into three containers so she could freeze two of them.
We had tacos for dinner and then did a “Cocktail Party” via Zoom with friends. We always enjoy chatting together and Zoom allows us to do this easily, even mid-week. We now have a short trip planned with them the end of March. There’s a beautiful river not terribly far away and we’re going to rent cabins. The guys plan to fly fish and we girls will be happy to read, nap and chat. 🙂
Wednesday…
This was such a fun day! We picked up Charlotte at noon and took her to Sonic for lunch. We then took her home with us where we spent the next few hours baking cookies, playing in the dirt with the Tonka dump truck and excavator, throwing rocks in the pond, coloring and doing puzzles. She also played the piano and the ukulele. I hope she had as much fun as Gramma and Grampa but I doubt she was a tired as we were – ha! In fact, we were so tired that we opted to retire to our chairs after dinner and pack the next morning.
I made an easy sheet pan dinner and rice.
Thursday…
Chris took David to pick up the rental car at 8 a.m. and by the time he got back to the house I was just about packed. He packed his clothes and we loaded the car. It was a nice day for a drive. We had lunch at In-N-Out as we drove through Dallas. We enjoyed listening to several more hours of “Undaunted Courage”. After we got settled at the hotel we ordered dinner from Cheddar’s which was just next door. David picked it up and brought it back to our room.
Friday…
For whatever reason, I woke at about 3 a.m. and soon David was awake, too. That’s common for me but not for him. He never went back to sleep and had to be up by 5 a.m. in order to be at the shop by 6 a.m. There was a retirement lunch for an employee and he had some things to check on.
While he was away I wrote a blog post and did a little work. He again picked up dinner at Cheddar’s. The previous night’s meal was quite good (tilapia and shrimp over rice) but the chicken this night was pretty dried out. At least the salad and baked potato were okay. I never have high expectations for take-out and prefer to just be pleasantly surprised when it’s good.
Saturday…
David had fallen asleep almost instantly but I read and then texted with the kids until about 12:30. He let me sleep in and I did so until about 9 a.m. After we left the hotel we went through Starbucks for coffee (David) and iced London Fog Latte (me). We also each got a Danish for our breakfast then hit the road. As we continued to listen to “Undaunted Courage” David got an idea. After he retires we are going to take a month to drive the route that Lewis and Clark took on their expedition of exploration. We won’t, however, be doing it in canoes and subsisting on roots and dried elk. And it won’t take us 2 1/2 years. 😉
Sunday…
David and I returned the rental car and picked up a couple of things for my mom which we ran out to her. She’s still not able to drive and had run out of bread. We also picked up a meal for her from Taco Mayo which she wasn’t expecting but enjoyed.
We have started watching The Gilded Age. I had watched the first episode myself and then asked David if he wanted to watch the series with me. He watched the first episode and liked it. We both loved Downton Abbey so I felt pretty certain he would. We went to bed early and watched episode two in bed. We followed that up with a episode of Dennis the Menace. David went to sleep and I read awhile. It was a restless night for me for some reason. Actually, I don’t seem to need a reason to sleep poorly. I had intended to be up earlier this morning but decided to allow myself an extra 45 minutes or so.
THIS WEEK
Since I hadn’t done a regular grocery shopping trip last week I needed to do so today, primarily for my mom. I ordered the groceries last night for pickup today. After I picked them up I drove by the post office to mail a birthday card to my brother and then to Braum’s for a few things my mom needed there. I also needed some butter and like theirs.
Tomorrow I’ll cook a few things for my mom and take them plus the groceries I bought today to her.
My house is in need of some attention and I hope to get it clean over the course of this week. It’s basically tidy but I need to vacuum, mop, dust and clean bathrooms. We also need to take in the recycling sometime this week. It’s threatening to take over the laundry room!
I also need to start cleaning out Grandma’s mobile home. It is scheduled to be moved on the 24th, I believe. Fortunately Grandma was tidy and there’s not a huge amount in it. However, there are things to go through in all the closets and cabinets. There may be a few things I’ll want but most of it will go to the Re-Use Center in town. Chris took the sofa and love seat. He had already taken the washer and dryer last year and we gave the refrigerator to Matt and Joy. There are a few more pieces of furniture but nothing any of us will want. I hope someone will be happy to get these few items. They aren’t anything fancy but they are serviceable.
We haven’t done a “donut run” in quite awhile so I’m thinking we will do that Friday night. The local donut shop opens at 9 p.m. and we like to pick up a bunch and drop them off to our kids in town. Charlotte LOVES donuts and is always excited when we do this.
WORK
I need to do the February newsletter tomorrow but that may be the extent of blog work this week as I focus on cleaning my house and starting the sorting process in the mobile home.
READING
Currently reading:
I am about 1/4 of the way through the audiobook, Mulberry Lane Babies.
I’m almost finished with Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert. I should be able to finish it in short order this evening.
The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady ~ Edith Holden
An Incomplete Education ~ Judy Jones and William Wilson
Celia’s House ~ D.E. Stevenson (getting close on this one, too!)
David and I got in about 11 hours of Undaunted Courage: Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West on our trip this past week. We have 2 1/2 hours left (It’s 21 hours and 40 minutes total). The plan is to go to bed about half an hour earlier each night this week and listen to it in bed before we watch an episode of Dennis the Menace.
If you don’t already have Audible, you can get a free trial here. We’ve definitely been enjoying listening to audiobooks on long drives.
SELF CARE
I didn’t get my toenails polished as intended last week and my fingernails need it again. So I’m putting both on my self care list this week. I really need to color my hair sometime, too. But I’m not sure if I’ll get around to it this week or not.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I need some sunshine! We are having some nicer days and I want to make a point of getting outdoors. I’d like to take at least one short walk each day if it’s not raining. Fresh air and sunshine are so important.
FUN ACTIVITIES
The main thing on the agenda this week is the “donut run”. I’d also like to find time to watch a movie or two.
HABIT OF THE MONTH (FEBRUARY)
The LWD challenge for February is to “Romanticize Your Life”. Each day, look for at least one way to make the ordinary special. I’ll be sharing ideas for this in the Facebook group throughout the month. I’d love to hear your ideas, too!
If you aren’t already in the group, here is the link:

I’d love to see pictures of your challenge so feel free to share them in the group or on Instagram and tag me:
