THIS WEEK WITH DEE
I’m quite late starting on this post today. I had ordered my groceries for a 1-2 p.m. pickup today but they were ready by about 10 a.m. I decided to go ahead and get them early and that changed my whole plan for the day.

I need to make more of my mom’s favorite soup/stew for her freezer so I’m making a big enough batch for our dinner tonight, too. I’ll serve it with leftover biscuits

IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
Monday…
I picked up our weekly grocery order at the local store and a few more things from Braum’s (my mom likes their bottled iced tea, bread and a few other items). I also dropped off a car load of linens from Grandma’s mobile home at the Chickasaw Re-Use Center. I told the man who took them that they were all freshly laundered. He thanked me profusely and said a lot of people bring things dirty. I can’t even imagine that. None of these items were dirty but it had been a long time since anyone had used them. I wanted to be sure they were all “Downy-fresh”.
I wrote the “This Week” post, scheduled some blog-related social media, read, journaled, and did a couple of Duolingo lessons. I made the bed, did a load of laundry, watered the houseplants and did dishes. I also had a 90 minute Zoom call that afternoon.
For dinner I made spaghetti and meatballs, corn, salad and garlic bread sticks. I packaged up three servings for my mom and took them, her groceries and some things I had ordered for her from Amazon to her.
David and Chris watched a movie together and I did a bit of work then watched an episode of The French Chef with Julia Child.
Tuesday…
David had scheduled his truck to be serviced at 11 a.m. I followed him to town so he could drop it off and then drove him home.
I made the bed, did laundry and cleaned the downstairs bathroom. I also did the usual daily admin for my blog, scheduled more social media, outlined a couple of upcoming blog posts, read, journaled, colored and did Duolingo lessons.
It was a nice day in the 70s so we had arranged to meet friends for dinner at our favorite local Mexican restaurant. In the past, we have always had the patio to ourselves so we’ve never thought to reserve seats there. This time, we arrived to see that they were setting up for a birthday party. Fortunately there was still one table left that they let us move. We had a nice meal and a good visit with our friends. The father of the child celebrating their birthday came over at one point and offered us some birthday cake which was awfully kind. They were almost apologetic about the kids but honestly, we thought they were just fine. A little exuberant before the food was served but that’s to be expected. As long as kids aren’t doing that high-pitched screeching or crying for lengthy periods of time, they don’t bother me at all. Especially in a casual, outdoor setting. Besides, we had our margaritas, Mexican food and good friends. It was a good time. 🙂
Wednesday…
I did the usual household tasks – bed, dishes, laundry. I did the daily blog admin tasks and finished a blog post. I read, journaled, colored and did Duolingo.
For dinner I made chicken and rice, steamed broccoli, salad and chilled peaches. The chicken and rice turned out quite tasty. I made a thick, well-seasoned white sauce flavored with powdered chicken bouillon. I used that, along with chicken broth as the liquid in rice. I combined these in a greased baking dish and place seasoned chicken drumsticks on top. Covered with foil and cooked about an hour. I removed the foil and cooked another 15-20 minutes until the chicken was done and the rice had absorbed the liquid. It was so good and quite inexpensive since I used drumsticks. I’ll definitely make this one again.
Thursday…
The usual home and office basics but not much more as I was rather tired.
For dinner I made Mediterranean Turkey Skillet. I basically used this recipe but added more veggies (yellow squash and green bell pepper). Since it also contained chopped onion, sun dried tomatoes and fresh spinach I decided it didn’t need another vegetable or salad and just served with toasted pita bread. It was delicious!
After dinner, David did the kitchen cleanup and I went over to Chris’ house to watch a movie with him. We watched “Meet John Doe” starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck. Very good movie!
Friday…
I made the bed, did a load of laundry, washed dishes and baked a batch of brownies.
In the office, I did the daily admin, finished a blog post, shared the LWD March Challenge (you’ll see it later in this post) and scheduled more social media.
I read, journaled, and did Duolingo.
For dinner I made barbecued chicken, homemade mashed potatoes, Stove Top stuffing, corn on the cob and biscuits. I knew my mom would enjoy all of these things so even though it was a carb-heavy meal, it was worth it for her. As soon as I had everything done and I had made up two divided plates for her (plus 4 brownies), David and I took the food and her Amazon order to Mom. Chris had received a last minute invitation to visit friends in Norman so David and I had dinner alone. It was way too much food but as I told David, I would not need to cook over the weekend.
Later that evening we had cocktails and watched two episodes of The O.C.
Saturday…
I have been quite tired so I allowed myself to not do much this day. Other than the daily “have-to-do” tasks, the main thing I did was write the monthly LWD newsletter. We had lots of leftovers which I made into “bowls” for dinner. I started with a layer of mashed potatoes, spooned on a bit of stuffing, some corn, and diced bbq chicken. I whipped up a simple gravy flavored with chicken bouillon to pour over the top and then sprinkled with grated cheddar and a few French fried onions. So good!
Sunday…
I washed the sheets, remade the bed when they were dry, ironed the pillowcases and four dresses, watered houseplants, took down the Christmas wreath that was still on the balcony railing outdoors, did our weekly menu, ordered groceries to pick up on Monday, a Duolingo lesson, read a Hemingway short story, watched two episodes of The French Chef and scheduled social media.
By the time I was finished and heading to the shower, it was already 10:30 p.m. We decided to just watch an episode of Dennis the Menace rather than The Gilded Age which is an hour long.
THIS WEEK
I’d like to do some work outdoors this week as the weather should be quite nice. Our front porch, balcony and back patio all need a good cleaning. I will start with the porch first and see how far I get.
WORK
I have four Zoom calls this week although I think there may be an overlap of two. One is recorded so I can watch it later. I also have a couple of blog posts I’d like to do this week.
READING
I am about 3/4 of the way through New Arrivals at Mulberry Lane.
Other books ongoing…
The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady ~ Edith Holden
An Incomplete Education ~ Judy Jones and William Wilson
I’m still reading last month’s LWD Book Club selection, Miss Eliza’s English Kitchen but didn’t get any more read this past week.
If you don’t already have Audible, you can get a free trial here. We’ve definitely been enjoying it on long drives.
SELF CARE
My goal last week was to color every day. I think I did four days. I need to have a designated time each day for this.
Now that it’s getting warm enough I want to do some stargazing, one of my favorite things.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I must admit I didn’t use the weight machine even once last week so I’m keeping that on my list.
FUN ACTIVITIES
We had such a nice dinner with friends Tuesday and enjoyed our “Cocktails and The O.C.” Friday night. This week I’ll likely watch a movie with Chris but I have a Zoom call on Thursday evening so we’ll need to move our movie night to Wednesday.
If David’s work schedule allows, I’d love to take an afternoon off this week for a little “road trip”. There is a museum and historical cemetery about an hour away. I bought an annual membership with the Oklahoma Historical Society and I’d love to visit several of the historical sites in the state. We’ll see…
HABIT OF THE MONTH (March)
The LWD March Challenge is to begin a daily journal practice. And if this is already a habit, consider adding something to it or changing it up in some way. I’ll be sharing some ideas in the Facebook group throughout the month and if you want to share something about how you journal, please feel free to do so in the group or email me.
If you aren’t already in the group, here is the link:
