IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
Monday…
I picked up my grocery order, made food for my mom and took her groceries to her. I made the bed, did dishes, watered my houseplants and did a load of laundry. For dinner we had spaghetti and meatballs, salad and garlic bread. After we cleaned the kitchen, the three of us listened to the new album Chris had bought for David for Father’s Day:
Fleetwood Mac – Tango in the Night
Tuesday…
I made the bed and did two loads of laundry. I needed to pick up something for Mom in town and take it to her. I had a Zoom call at 2 p.m., scheduled some social media, and outlined a blog post. We had tacos for dinner. David and Chris watched a movie at Chris’ house while I watched a gorgeous version of the Romeo and Juliet ballet on our new television. It was streamed via AARP. They offer some really good productions and they are free.
After the guys finished their movie and I finished the ballet, I made strawberry shortcake for us all. I bought a frozen poundcake, topped it with fresh strawberries and whipped some heavy cream to go on top. Yummy!
Wednesday…
At 1 p.m. I had a Zoom call. As for household tasks, I made the bed, did laundry, washed dishes, and cleaned the storm door. I did the usual blog admin work, ordered my Rx refills, read, journaled, and did my daily Duolingo lesson.
I made chicken salad for dinner along with candied carrots and French rolls.
Thursday…
This was our 43rd anniversary! We both had some work to do before we could leave for Oklahoma City. David took a bunch of things to the scrap iron place and then picked up donuts while in town. I finished the Romanticize the Season ~ Summer blog post and packed.
On our way out of town we dropped off donuts at Matt and Joy’s house (Charlotte was napping so we didn’t get to see her) and then at Lisa and Justin’s. We left Chris’ donuts at home for him and took two apple fritters with us for our Friday breakfast. We got Starbucks iced coffees and then headed out of town.
For dinner we stopped in Norman and enjoyed a nice meal at Scratch. They have a lovely covered patio with fans to keep it comfortable. David had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and veggies and I had pancetta wrapped chicken with risotto and veggies. Gordon Ramsay’s show, Kitchen Nightmares was playing on the t.v. out there. The sound wasn’t on and neither were the subtitles but David “narrated” and it was hilarious!
After dinner we drove to our hotel in OKC, The National. It used to be a national bank (hence the name) and is absolutely gorgeous.
They have turned the HUGE vault into a bar, The Library of Distilled Spirits.
We had drinks there and spent a couple of hours talking and sharing stories from our childhoods. You’d think after being together so many years we’d have already shared everything but apparently not. It was so very nice.
Friday…
We had coffee and apple fritters for breakfast in our room and then ordered room service for lunch. It’s been years since we’ve had room service delivered on a wheeled cart/table. It was covered with a linen tablecloth and the food was excellent.
We watched old t.v. shows and napped. David slept almost 3 hours! Poor guy doesn’t get enough sleep either.
For dinner we went to Red Rock Canyon Grill which is right on Lake Hefner. The food was delicious and it was lovely to sit outdoors watching the sunset while we ate. We had chargrilled artichokes for our appetizer. David had the filet and I had roasted chicken. Both of our meals came with garlic mashed potatoes and glazed carrots. We didn’t really need dessert but we happened to spot other diners having something that looked amazing. So we split one. It was vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two cinnamon fudge brownies topped with fudge sauce in a pool of caramel sauce. Oh, and topped with whipped cream. It was INCREDIBLE!
We went back to the hotel vault/bar after dinner and enjoyed talking to one another again for a couple of hours.
Saturday…
After we checked out, we had lunch, picked up a tool chest David bought for the shop in Francis (for work) and then we headed home. We actually remembered to pick up my prescriptions when we got to town. I honestly figured we’d get home and THEN remember – ha! It was such a lovely anniversary get-away.
Sunday…
I made the bed, unpacked, and cleaned/decluttered our bathroom counter. David did two loads of laundry which is totally not the norm around here. He had a load of filthy work clothes which he threw in the washer. I had another load in the basket ready to go in after his load was done but he went ahead and started it. That was rather nice. 🙂
I did our weekly menu, ordered groceries for us and my mom, and scheduled some social media for the week ahead.
David had picked up foot long sandwiches at Subway for lunch and we each saved half for our dinner. We all three watched “Little Murders“, starring Elliott Gould and Donald Sutherland. Chris has been watching movies with Donald Sutherland the past few days since he (Sutherland) passed away. It was a dark comedy and truly quirky.
THIS WEEK
Monday…
I took David to pick up his rental car this morning. I was out of international stamps so I ran by the post office to mail a postcard to a friend in England. I then went to Home Depot to get a few tomato plants. Yes, I’m VERY late getting them planted! I also picked up a few flowering plants for the front flower bed and a bag of potting soil.
My grocery order was ready by then so I picked it up. Mom called and asked for something so I got that and ran it out to her. I still need to cook some items for her and take them plus her groceries to her.
Chris and I are having salmon tonight. Whenever David is out of town we have fish.
I washed the sheets this morning and will remake the bed. I also need to water the houseplants and do a few other little chores.
Tuesday…
I’m going to have Charlotte for awhile in the afternoon while Matt and Joy are having some work done at their house. She’s going to be disappointed that her beloved “Grampa” isn’t here but I’m looking forward to playing with her myself. I’m thinking a tea party is in order.
Have you heard of LEON Day? It’s half way to Christmas. LEON is NOEL spelled backwards. I’m going to see if Chris wants to watch a Christmas movie with me.
Wednesday…
I have a Zoom call at 1 p.m. and I need to plant the tomato plants and flowers I bought.
David will be back this evening but likely well after dinnertime. Chris will pick up sushi for the two of us. If David is back early enough we’ll all watch an episode of M.A.S.H. We watched the first episode last week and plan to watch one a week each Wednesday.
Thursday…
This is the one day I don’t think I have anything in particular scheduled. I think I’ll take advantage of that and set aside a couple of hours to just read during the day. Then Chris and I will have our weekly movie night together.
Friday…
My mom has a pedicure appointment at 3 p.m. so I’ll take her to that.
Saturday…
I’d like to spend an hour or so working on my closet. I also hope to get some blog work done.
Sunday…
If all goes to plan Saturday, I’ll just read and relax this day. And we all laughed together!
READING
I’ve done very little reading this past week but I’m really going to try to make more time for it!
Currently reading…
The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo
Other books ongoing…
The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady ~ Edith Holden
An Incomplete Education ~ Judy Jones and William Wilson
On our recent trip to New Orleans, David and I listened to two audiobooks on Audible:
The Last Madame: A Life in the New Orleans Underworld by Christine Wiltz (This was fascinating!)
Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…And Maybe the World by Admiral William H. McRaven
If you don’t already have Audible, you can get a free trial here. We’ve definitely been enjoying it on long drives.
SELF CARE
I did a quick manicure and pedicure before our little trip to the city. Both could use another coat. I also want to use some tooth whitening strips sometime this week.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I’ve got my little walking pad set up. Now to make it a habit to use it daily!
FUN ACTIVITIES
A Christmas movie on Tuesday, sushi and M.A.S.H. on Wednesday, movie night with Chris on Thursday, “Cocktails and The O.C.” with David on Friday night. I did work in some coloring time last week and want to do more this week.
HABIT OF THE MONTH (JUNE)
The LWD June Challenge is to to increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere it’s almost summer and there are so many delicious options coming into season. Make use of your local farmers market and add lots of fresh fruits and veggies to your daily diet. I’ll be sharing some ideas in the Facebook group throughout the month and if you want to share something about how you incorporate more fresh produce in your daily diet, please feel free to do so in the group or email me.
