This Week With Dee – where I share our menu, my planned home tasks for the week, what I’m reading, self care plans and more. I hope it will give you some ideas for planning your own week or at least a glimpse of one homemaker’s life.

THIS WEEK WITH DEE
I had such a lovely birthday getaway this past weekend! David took me to our favorite hotel in Oklahoma City – The Skirvin. Covid is running rampant so we just stayed in our room and ordered room service. They upgraded us to a suite which was especially nice since we didn’t go anywhere.
We did get to spend a wonderful hour in the pool because we had it entirely to ourselves. Oh, how I have missed swimming! Aside from that, we watched a ridiculous number of episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show. It was quite relaxing and just what we needed.
And speaking of relaxing, this week’s music selection is meditation music. I don’t know about you but I’ve sensed so much negative energy in the world in recent months (years?). I try not to let it get to me but as an empath I easily absorb the energy of those around me. I have to make a conscious effort to let it go and music is one way I do this.
I almost never say this but I encourage you to read some of the comments on this one. It’s really quite lovely to witness strangers being so kind in the comment section of a YouTube video. And very rare!

IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
I spent Monday through Thursday catching up a bit following our big music event. I didn’t take on anything extra but just got things back to “normal”. We left for the city at noon on Friday and returned late Sunday afternoon.
THIS WEEK
I always feel like September is a new beginning. In part, because of when my birthday falls and also because it marks the end of summer. I like to re-evaluate my routines and make some new plans this time of year.
David is out of town today and tomorrow which also gives me some extra time in the evenings to do some planning. I’m going to work on a new cleaning schedule, start a pantry/freezer inventory, plan blog posts and set some new goals for the rest of the year.
WORK
I have a few things left to do to wrap up AdaFest 2021:
- Order note cards with our nonprofit’s logo from a local printing company.
- Send thank you cards to all of our sponsors.
- Write a short note for David to include with checks he will be mailing to winners of the film festival (which we have had to postpone due to Covid).
- Post event photos to social media.
READING
I still need to finish up Writers & Lovers: A Novel. I want to get that done before Wednesday when the September LWD Book Club selection will be posted. I am really excited to start the book I have selected. Be sure to watch the blog for it!
SELF CARE
It looks like we will have some clear nights this week for stargazing. I also need to give myself a pedicure.
HEALTH & FITNESS
You’ve heard this before but I truly MUST get back into the treadmill habit. Feel free to ask me if I’m doing this. I apparently need some accountability.
FUN ACTIVITIES
It’s time for me to get creative again about planning fun activities at home. Movie nights, vinyl album listening, board games, etc. It’s probably about time for me to set up the game table in the family room again for puzzles, coloring, and games.
HABIT OF THE WEEK
I want to go to bed earlier and get up earlier. I’m such a night owl and I know that’s not likely to change in a major way but I do want to shift my sleep time at least a little bit.

Glad you enjoyed your birthday getaway. It sounds wonderfully relaxing. I’m with you 100% on too much negativity floating around these days, and agree music helps.
The inspection that was meant to happen last week is happening this week (today, as in Tuesday) and the dogs and I are going to my Dad’s while Kelly deals with it, since I don’t really want to be in the house with them coming. Wednesday I have a grocery order coming and a roleplaying game. Friday I have book club. Other than that, this week I’m doing a virtual writing check-in with someone to try and help me regain the habit of regular writing (I’m hoping having an accountability partner for a few days will help restart my regular writing habit).
As for my menu…
Monday: baked potato with cheese and beans.
Tuesday: jackfruit toccos and salad.
Wednesday: tofu breakfast wraps.
Thursday: garlic mashed potatoes with green beans and carrots.
Friday: leftovers from Thursday.
Saturday: vegan sushi.
Sunday: baked potato with salad.
I hope the inspection went well yesterday. I think I need a writing accountability partner, too. I really would like to finish my book before my next birthday.
The inspection went very well. I was worried because of a few areas we hadn’t sorted (which I felt like were messy, even though it was more disorganized clutter than actual mess). But they were very pleased, and actually thanked us for taking such great care of the place and keeping it so clean and tidy.
I don’t usually need an accountability partner, but procrastination and I have become great friends, and my reasons for not working on my writing (all the stuff I was dealing with last year, and then the bad reaction to the shot and broken hand in the Spring) started turning in to excuses. So when she suggested it (knowing what a hard time I’ve been having getting my writing habit started again) I agreed. I’d be willing to do it with you too some time if you like.
I’m glad it went well. And I just might take you up on the accountability one of these days.
