This Week With Dee – where I share our menu, my planned home tasks for the week, what I’m reading, self care plans and more. I hope it will give you some ideas for planning your own week or at least a glimpse of one homemaker’s life.

THIS WEEK WITH DEE
It is Labor Day so David and Chris are off work. I think Chris is watching movies at his house and David is working on the yard. It’s cooler than it’s been lately so that’s nice. I’m doing my usual Monday tasks – washing sheets, more laundry, watering plants, etc. I am, however, doing it all at a more leisurely pace.
I’m writing this at my desk with a candle burning and music playing. Don’t you just love the screenshot of this playlist? What a cosy room. Oops, I did it again. I suppose it’s from a lifetime of reading British novels but I just naturally use their spelling of “cozy”.
No matter which way you spell it, I just adore a warm and cosy/cozy room. I’m on a mission to declutter excess from closets, drawers, and storage spaces but unless something in me changes drastically, I’m not interested in the typical minimalist aesthetic. I much prefer a room filled with books, plants, paintings, rugs and favorite items on display.
I do want things tidy and intentional but not spare and minimal. I can definitely appreciate a well-executed, minimal space but it’s not for me. I’ll take an English country cottage look, please.
What about you? What is your preferred interior design aesthetic?

IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
I’m not entirely certain what I did last week. I don’t recall just sitting around being bored but for the life of me I can’t see that I made any forward progress on anything. Just the usual home-keeping tasks: bed making, laundry, cooking, dishes, tidying up…
THIS WEEK
I’d like to at least begin planning for some fall cleaning. I plan to take a notebook in hand and starting at the front door, go through my house room-by-room making notes of what needs to be done. I will create a complete list of everything from deep cleaning to repairs to new items I’d like for each space. I’ll then pull a few things from this master list to work on each week. I have no illusions of getting it all done but somehow, just having it written down instead of floating around in my head makes it all seem orderly and under control.
WORK
I have a number of fall-related blog posts I’d like to write over the next few weeks. Actually, I have way more than I’ll ever have time to write but I’d like to choose several and begin researching and outlining them.
We also have a few events coming up for our nonprofit. I need to get Facebook events created for each of them. I also need to get information to my intern so he can start working on a poster for a fundraiser we are hosting.
READING
I’m pretty disappointed in myself when it comes to reading. I’m really struggling to get back into a regular reading habit. I used to read all the time yet these days I find it difficult to make myself pick up a book. My brain feels like it’s on overload and when I have downtime I’m more likely to veg out with a YouTube video.
If you’ve ever had that issue and found a way out of it, I’d love to hear how you did it.
SELF CARE
I never did any stargazing last week but our evenings will be a little cooler this week. David has mowed the back yard where my stargazing chair sits so there’s no excuse. I’m committed to at least one or two nights this week!
HEALTH & FITNESS
More water, earlier bedtime, treadmill…
FUN ACTIVITIES
I didn’t get the game table set up last week but I’m doing that today! I will then set out one of my adult coloring books and pencils to enjoy in spare moments each day.
(Here is the link to the table we have. It’s not currently available but maybe it will come back. I am really happy with it.)
HABIT OF THE WEEK
At least 30 minutes of reading at bedtime every night!

Tori says
I’d rather “organized clutter” than the minimalist look. The minamalist look feels too much like a showroom, where as the cozy cottage look feels… Well, cozy. And also more lived in.
I think there’s something in the air, since there’s a lot of not reading as much as normal going around. I’m trying to fix that issue myself, since I’m still a lot ofbooks behind on my reading goal, which is very unusual for me. I mean, I’ve fallen a couple of books behind for a while before, but never more than a few, and I would usually catch up quickly. But I’ve spent most of this year behind on my reading goal, and been unable to catch up so far. I’m trying to remedy that. If I figure out a way I find is working, I’ll let you know.
Other than roleplaying Monday and Wednesday, and book club on Friday (which I’m now co-facilitator for) I really don’t know what I’m doing this week. And don’t ask about my menu, since other than knowing I’ll need to be making the meals from last week I didn’t end up making, I don’t have a clue about that either. Yep, it’s one of those weeks.
