You may have noticed that I sort of “disappeared” last week. I had posts scheduled on Facebook and a menu post last Monday but unless you follow me on Instagram you probably didn’t “see” much of me. That’s because we spent the week in New Orleans.
We hadn’t planned on going again this year until I saw the $49 airfare special on Southwest Airlines. We also have a timeshare which allows us to spend at least two weeks in New Orleans and had only used one week of it. AND David had quite a bit of vacation time left. How could we possibly pass up the opportunity to spend a week in our favorite city?
Here are some pictures of our vacation:
St. Louis Cathedral – the oldest Catholic cathedral in continuous use in the United States
We stayed at the Avenue Plaza resort on St. Charles Avenue. It was all decked out for the holidays.
Every time we’ve taken the streetcar down St. Charles Avenue I have looked longingly
at this library. This time I decided to check it out. Such a gorgeous building!
I adore raw oysters. I had these at Superior Seafood
and I do believe they were the best I’ve ever had.
I normally would order wine with my meal but I couldn’t pass up
this Earl Grey-infused gin cocktail.
Blackened catfish topped with crawfish etouffée – delicious!
We tried some new (to us) restaurants on this trip including
Houston’s. I usually focus on seafood when in New Orleans but opted for prime rib this time.
We spent a few hours at Kermit Ruffins‘ Mother-In-Law Lounge on Friday
and then went to his show at the Blue Nile later that night.
What a fun day!
Our dear friend, Debi of Debi and the Deacons has been ill.
We were so happy that she was able to perform again Saturday night.
We always enjoy the music of Mark and the Pentones.
Mark and David share a love of cool hats, apparently.
Hanging out with Rhythm and Rain, and a friend formerly from Oklahoma
I love the beautiful old buildings of the French Quarter.
One of the things on my to-do list this trip was to have a martini
at the Carousel Bar. We hadn’t gotten around to it all week but had some time
to kill Monday afternoon before our flight. It was only 2 p.m. but hey, it’s New Orleans.
We ended up sitting by a really nice couple and chatting with them for a couple of hours.
It was a wonderful, relaxing and much-needed vacation. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Glad you had such a great time. Can’t say I’m surprised though, since I know you love it there.
