A week in review

It’s been a whole week since I last posted so I thought I’d do a little catching up. Last week was a good one but also kind of busy.

Monday – Lisa and I did our monthly shopping in Norman and as soon as we got back to town I had a meeting of the city Multicultural Committee on which I serve. I didn’t get home until around 7 p.m. and by the time I cooked dinner, cleaned up and got all the groceries put away, about all I was suited for was a little time on the porch.

Tuesday – I cleaned house, picked up my co-op order in town and then we had the kids over for pizza and game night. We had Lisa and our son-in-law, Justin, Chris and his girlfriend, Kadi, and Kadi’s sister, Addy. We played Trivial Pursuit and Imaginiff. And we laughed a LOT. I think we’ll make this a  monthly thing.

Wednesday – David left the house at 5:30 a.m. to catch a flight to Houston for a business meeting. I had a hair appointment and church choir rehearsal. We always take time off during the summer and this was our first time back. I’m always happy for choir to start up again. I enjoy the music and it’s such a great group of people.

Thursday – Lisa and I went swimming for a couple of hours at the gym. We don’t do anything terribly strenuous but we keep moving and it’s a great time for us to just chat with no other distractions. David returned from Houston and after dinner and a couple of episodes of The Daily Show which we had recorded, I took advantage of the cooler temperatures and enjoyed a couple of hours of porch time.

Friday – It had been a long and busy week for David so I planned a quiet, relaxing evening for us. I served dinner in courses:

• cream of asparagus soup
• salad
• bruschetta chicken with a side of pasta
• homemade chocolate chip cookies for dessert

Saturday – David worked on one of the firetrucks all day – poor guy. We finally got some much-needed rain. In fact, it rained pretty steadily most of the day. I took some hot tea, books, notebook, etc. to the porch to enjoy the rain and cooler temperatures and it was actually chilly enough that I had to go get my hoodie and some socks! Of course, when I checked the temperature it was only 73 degrees. That, my friends, is why I don’t do winter very well.  After David got home I fixed dinner and we watched a couple of episodes of Downton Abbey. Love that show! And then we watched our friends via webcam until about 1:30 a.m.

Sunday – When we went to bed we decided not to set an alarm. If we were awake in time, we’d go to church. Otherwise, we’d sleep in. I awoke around 7:45 a.m. David was absolutely crashed. I got up at 8 to take Shiloh out. Apparently he was enjoying the nice weather and we ended up out there for over half an hour. David was still sound asleep so I crawled back in bed and was soon out again myself. We didn’t wake up until a little after noon! David went and picked up Subway sandwiches for us around 1 p.m. and we watched some Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Around 3:30 we went back to bed and then slept until 6 p.m. Yeah, that was kind of stupid because then we couldn’t go to sleep until nearly 2 a.m.  I guess we need to be back in New Orleans because that is more like the sleep schedule we keep there.

So that’s what I was doing last week instead of blogging. I also made a few observations:

1. Just because I don’t remember to read Twitter very often that doesn’t mean people aren’t reading my tweets. The good news is that people are reading my tweets. Tom Williams of Tom Williams and the Boat actually thanked me for my post on The Well-Groomed Hippie in which I shared one of their videos. I wasn’t even following him at the time (I am now!) The bad news? People are reading my tweets. Ha! I’m less “filtered” on Twitter and am usually able to convince myself I’m just tweeting into a black hole. That is, until I get a humorous Facebook message referencing one of my “unfiltered” tweets. Oh, well. 
2. The best way for me to start working on my long-neglected novel is to just start working on a random scene rather than try to pick up where I left off. I had a little inspiration for a new character so I started there. It involves a little research on my part which has been interesting on several levels.
3. My 50th birthday is coming up and while I don’t have any issues with that, I do find myself giving more thought to how I want to spend my time. I’ll probably be sharing more about that at some point. 
4. One day of rain can turn dried up, crunchy grass green. Oh, Oklahoma…you have the silliest weather. 
5. Warm-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookies are pretty hard to beat. 
6. If you play Trivial Pursuit with my son, try to get on his team. Unless you like to lose.
