The Decluttering Bug

The decluttering bug has bitten…

I expected it. It happens every year around this time. The Christmas decorations which looked so cozy and cheerful just a couple of weeks ago are beginning to make me feel claustrophobic. It is time to put them all away and begin a thorough cleaning. It always makes more sense for me to do this now rather than wait for spring at which time the great outdoors is beckoning. Besides, having a really clean house makes those cold, winter weeks more pleasant.

I had put away some of the decorations last week. Today I have done more and hope to have all but the tree done by the end of the day. I’m hoping to get David to help me un-decorate the tree tonight while watching football. I figure he can take down a few decorations during each commercial. I bought a special quilted bag/container for the tree this year so I am looking forward to seeing if it fits. We’ve had the tree about 14 years so the original box is a bit battered. I’m making a point of carefully sorting as I put away the decorations this year. We have several things that we haven’t used in quite awhile so I am going to put them in my *garage sale box*. I think I may need one more medium sized Rubbermaid container but then all my decorations will be in these boxes.

After I get this done and do a regular house cleaning, I am going to start on the “Grand Plan“. This was a yahoo support group (Yahoo Groups no longer exist) for people working their way through their houses according to a home cleaning/maintenance plan developed by Katie Leckey. Unfortunately the first week (this week) starts with the front porch and there is absolutely no way I am going to be hosing down our porch or cleaning the outside of the window when it is 27 degrees!

You know, I started this blog as a chronicle of my decluttering and it has been anything but. Guess it’s time to at least occasionally report something along those lines.
