It’s Day 2 of our “Fabulous Fall” series. Welcome back!
Today we are going to consider first impressions. What do you or visitors to your home see first? Do you have a front porch? What about just inside your door? Let’s take a little time today to spruce up these areas a bit and add a touch of fall.
I have a large front porch which has been a bit neglected in recent weeks. It needs a good sweeping, the ivy on the pillars needs to be trimmed back, and I want to buy a couple of potted mums to add some fall color.
Indoors, we have a long entry hall with this weird little area to the side which I think was supposed to have been a coat closet. It was never enclosed but my great grandmother’s round oak table fits perfectly in that spot. It’s the first thing you see so I like to make sure it’s attractively decorated. Today I switched out the summer decor for autumn. What do you think?
So here are your assignments for today:
- Pay attention to your entry area. Tidy, clean, decorate. Don’t get carried away and turn this into an all-day project (unless that floats your boat). Just spend a little time making it attractive and welcoming. And if you’d like to share a photo I’d love to see it.
- Pick one or more items from the checklist you filled in yesterday.
Treat of the day:
Buy a pot of mums or a pumpkin for your front porch. Or plant some pansies. Aren’t they the most cheerful looking flowers?
Have a beautiful day and don’t forget to check back again tomorrow for more “Fabulous Fall” inspiration.

I have been working on both my porches and my entries are good. But yes! I did go buy mums. I decided with our heat Id best hold off on pansies right now, but plan to go back in about a month and get some. They will last all late autumn/winter/spring here for us. I also bought daffodils, since you must plant them in autumn in order to have spring blooms.

I’ve been following your porch re-dos. Nice job! I haven’t tackled my front porch yet and our back patio is a disaster. David has been hiring one of “our” musicians to stain the wood ceiling. His time has been sporadic and then he burned his arm pretty badly (not at our house) so I don’t know when he will be able to work again. There is plastic sheeting on the concrete floor and cans of stain all over the place. I try not to look at it.

I kept my porch very simple this fall – a pot of mums and a new fall welcome mat. I will add some pumpkins in October. I like your fall table…very pretty!

I haven’t even bought the mums yet so you’re way ahead of me. Thanks for your kind comment about my table. 🙂
