Drive-thru order taker: May I take your order?
David: Two 1/6 pound cheeseburgers with mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato, and a large order of fries.
Order Taker: Two bacon cheeseburgers?
David: No. Two 1/6 pound cheeseburgers with mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato, and a large order of fries.
Order Taker: A chicken sandwich?
David: (after turning off the car and leaning out the window closer to the speaker) No. Two. Sixth pound. Cheeseburgers. With mayonnaise. Lettuce. And tomato. And a large order of fries.
Order taker: That will be $7.65 at the window.
Me: What do you think the chances are that the order will be correct?
David: None.
At the window…
David: You did get that it was two 1/6 pound cheeseburgers with mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato…right?
Order Taker: Oh, I got two deluxe cheeseburgers, light lettuce and tomato. I’ll go tell them.
David to me (sotto voce): What the hell is “light lettuce and tomato”?
Guess what we got? Two cheeseburgers with mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato. AND ketchup, pickles and onions.
