For the second year in a row we had a prime viewing spot for our town’s 4th of July fireworks display. Friends invited us to join them at their house which has a perfect view. We were having a lovely time visiting, eating homemade ice cream and watching the fireworks:
And then for the second year in a row we had to leave early because of knuckleheads who set controlled burns or set off fireworks which cause grass fires. David ended up not actually having to fight a fire but we did miss the fireworks finale which I hear was rather spectacular this year. Oh, well.
We did get to hear our friends perform, however. There were very few people there so it was like having our own personal concert.
In fact, I asked them to do one of my favorite songs and even though it had been ages since they’d performed it, they did for me (thanks!):
All in all, it was a fun evening and we even get a second chance to see fireworks. The tiny town where David works does their fireworks this Saturday. Our niece is coming up from Texas to stay with us this weekend and we’re going to take her to see how rural Oklahoma celebrates 4th of July weekend. Should be interesting, to say the least.

Homemade ice-cream and the 4th do go together! And yes, there are plenty of knuckleheads around too!
