Hawaiian Ham Sandwich
I like those sweet Hawaiian rolls and recently saw that Sara Lee makes sliced Hawaiian bread:
This gave me an idea. How about a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with pineapple?
These were an absolute hit with my family!
Hawaiian Ham Sandwich
Ingredients
- 2 slices Sara Lee sliced Hawaiian bread
- 1 slice American cheese
- 1 slice cheddar cheese
- 1 slice thick deli ham
- 1 slice canned pineapple
- 2-4 tbsp butter
Instructions
-
Spread one side of each slice of bread with a generous amount of softened butter.
-
Heat tablespoon of butter in skillet over medium heat.
-
Place one slice of bread, buttered side down in pan.
-
Layer in this order: American cheese, ham, pineapple slice, cheddar slice.
-
Top with other slice of bread, buttered side up.
-
Cook until lightly browned, flip sandwich and brown on the other side.
I used a slice of American cheese because of its good melting abilities and a slice of sharp cheddar for the flavor. But you could use whatever cheeses you like or happen to have on hand. Gouda, Monterey Jack, Velveeta…
For the ham I used a relatively thick sliced deli ham. You could use thinner slices and double up. And keep this recipe in mind for those ham leftovers after the holidays.
I served these delicious sandwiches with a simple, homemade coleslaw for a quick but tasty meal. Other options for sides include:
Gosh this sounds absolutely delicious! Can’t wait to try it.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
