Grocery Haul ~ Fourth Week of September

September 26, 2025 By Deanna Piercy Leave a Comment

Welcome to the fourth week of September’s LWD Grocery Haul series in which I share our weekly grocery purchases, including prices. I’m always curious to see what others purchase and what food prices are in different countries or regions. I hope you are finding this series interesting and helpful.

I spent quite a bit more this week than usual, mostly due to the cost of meat. I had actually ordered a small sliced ham for our chef salads and sandwiches. It was about $11 which was high enough but they were out. In consultation with my shopper I chose sliced turkey instead. I didn’t realize how much more expensive it was than the ham. But since I actually prefer turkey anyway, it’s okay.

Of course, beef prices are skyrocketing and that is reflected in the cost of the pot roast and ground beef I bought. Whew! In the future, I’ll only be making one beef purchase per week. I’ll alternate our Sunday pot roast with chicken and I really need to cook up a big batch of lentils for our weekly tacos. I freeze them in meal-size portions which makes it super easy on Taco Tuesday.

The other sort-of-crazy purchase this week were the red onions. I asked for 3 onions. My shopper, no doubt thinking she was doing me a favor, told me she picked out the biggest ones she could find. They are HUGE! And they cost $6.59. Gulp. But they won’t go to waste. My son loves pickled red onions, something I haven’t made in quite some time. They last 2-3 weeks in the fridge. I will do this with one of the onions, chop and freeze a second, use the third fresh.

Finally, if you follow my grocery hauls regularly you might have noticed I don’t usually buy bottled water. We have a Culligan water dispenser and buy those 5 gallon bottles for it. But I’m starting my winter prep and like to keep some individual bottles on hand for emergencies. Since they were on sale I decided this was a good time to buy some.

Our weekly menu…

I’m writing this on Friday and we have stayed on track with the planned menu all week. 🙂
