One of my favorite scents is the fragrance of Crayola Crayons. Opening a new box and getting a whiff of that distinctive aroma instantly takes me back to my childhood. I’ve always loved to color. My mom had the three of us in four and a half years so she was too busy to sit and play with us much but I do remember coloring with her. She taught me how to stay neatly in the lines, color all in one direction, and add my own special touches.
My own kids were never all that interested in coloring books, preferring instead to draw their own pictures. The significance of that doesn’t escape me. 😉 However, I still bought them lots of crayons over the years and occasionally borrowed them myself.
It’s been several years since I’ve colored a picture but this morning I pulled out a coloring book and the barely used box of Crayola Crayons that I keep on hand for young visitors. I’m not sure how long I spent working on the picture above but I’m not ashamed to say that I enjoyed every minute of it (although I must admit that the new colors and new names for old colors threw me a bit). Do you like the checkerboard floor I added? What about you…did you like to color as a kid? If so, do you have your own crayons now? You should. At least a 64 count box with built-in sharpener.
