Can it really be Christmas week?! I still have quite a bit to do but it will get done – it always does. Our menu this week doesn’t have much cooking until the end of the week. I did cook a nice turkey dinner for the two of us Saturday night. I put a turkey breast in the crockpot (super easy!) and made mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade cranberry sauce, broccoli, salad and biscuits. It was a lot of food for two people but the leftovers are quite nice.

Monday
David and I are going to do some shopping for the kids’ stockings and then go out to dinner.
Tuesday
David will be out of town. I cooked a turkey breast over the weekend so I’ll have enough for leftovers for my dinner.
Wednesday
I don’t think David will be back in time for dinner and I have choir rehearsal. I’ll just fix something simple for my dinner.
Thursday
We have a little tradition of picking up Chinese food for dinner and watching “A Christmas Story”. We’ve just about run out of time so this is the night!
Friday
- lasagna roll-ups
- salad
- garlic bread
Saturday
We aren’t entirely certain what our plans are. My extended family has a big potluck at noon but I don’t know yet if/when our son’s girlfriend will be with us this weekend. We do have a little tradition for a late night supper after our church candlelight service. David and I come home, grill hot dogs (or I cook them in the cast iron skillet if it’s just too unbearably cold), and enjoy a simple meal while watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. We then fill the stockings and go to bed, hopefully with enough time to get a few hours of sleep before the kids show up Christmas morning.
Sunday
Our family tradition is to have our adult children here in the morning for homemade waffles, mimosas and gift opening. I then usually cook something early afternoon. Sometimes it’s just David and myself. Sometimes my parents come over. Since my mom had a mild stroke last month she hasn’t been getting out much so I don’t know what their plans will be. I’m just keeping it simple and flexible.
- prime rib (if I can get one) or a nice roast
- baked potatoes
- salad
- rolls
- some type of dessert

Happy Christma Dee! Everything sounds wonderful! I will be over at midnight for hotdogs! 🙂
We’ll throw some extra on the grill. 🙂
LOL even when I’m completely ready before the holiday this week is ALWAYS extremely busy with the baking and things.
Your menu sounds delicious! Have a very Merry Christmas!
Baking! I knew I forgot something – ha! Thanks for stopping by and have a terrific week.
Your Christmas dinner sounds wonderful!
Thank you! I decided to do something different this year. I’m really hoping my butcher will have prime rib.
We don’t really have a traditional Christmas dinner any more. My family used to always have turkey with sage and onion stuffing, cranberry sauce, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, sprouts, carrots, and gravy. In fact, my Dad and Nan (his Mother) still do that exact dinner every year, if I’m not mistaken. But ever since I became a vegetarian, which was somewhere around ten years ago now, he only thing I can guarantee I’ll still have is the roast potatoes and sprouts. I tend to be flexible about the rest of it, though parsnips and carrots do make an appearance more often than not, and cranberry sauce usually makes it in to the meal too. Hubby tends to mix it up a bit too, depending on what he feels like making. I’m not 100% certain what he’s having this year, but I’m planning to have roast potatoes, roast parsnips, root vegetable mash, sprouts, stuffing balls, cranberry sauce, and vegetable gravy. Although, we’re not making our dinner until Boxing Day (something we often do, since we end up spending a lot of Christmas Day on the phone to various family members) so it will actually come in to next week’s menu for us.
What we are doing for the days of Christmas that happen this week, however, is to invite a couple of friends over for a nice tea on Christmas Eve. We’ll have sweet mince pies with squirty cream, among other things. Then hubby and I will eat the leftovers Christmas Day.
Anyway, if I don’t speak to you before… Merry Christmas!
Have a lovely holiday and think of me when you are having that Christmas Eve tea. 🙂
Will do. 😉
Merry Christmas!
