Our recent fall-like weather here in Oklahoma apparently put me in the mood for soup. Even though our temperatures are back up into the 80s, I’m going ahead with my soup plans. I’ve got three on the menu, plus a New Orleans Monday tradition to start off the week. Laissez le bon temps rouler!
Monday:
- red beans and rice
- salad
- corn bread
Tuesday:
- broccoli corn chowder
- salad
- corn bread (leftover from Monday)
Wednesday:
- lentil soup (recipe later this week)
- salad
- biscuits
Thursday:
- leftovers – I have a meeting
Friday:
- potato leek soup
- salad
- beer bread
One thing you won’t be seeing reflected in my meals are the “use it up from the freezer” items. That would be due to the fact that David turned off one of the breakers while working on some electrical outlets in our laundry room just prior to our trip to New Orleans. Unfortunately, the circuit he turned off (and didn’t turn back on) was also the one our freezer was plugged into. He discovered this yesterday. Poor guy felt so badly. Hey, at least I hadn’t ever gotten around to putting up a lot of fresh produce this summer like I usually do. And since we are almost vegetarian it wasn’t full of meat. That means we didn’t lose a lot of expensive food AND it means that despite being off for 10 days or so, the smell wasn’t that bad. Plus, today is our trash day. He pulled the freezer out onto the patio, emptied everything into the trash and washed it out with bleach water a couple of times. We left it open in the sun for a couple of hours. It smelled fine but I dumped some old ground coffee inside just for good measure. Today I’ll vacuum it out and it will be good as new! Hey, these things happen.
