I took the photo above last November but I’m re-running it for this post because, well, it doesn’t look like fall here yet and I needed a picture.
Y’all know how I feel about summer ending and how I live in denial about the whole thing. If I had my way the year would go something like this: April, May, first half of June, my birthday in August, September, first half of October and then back to April. Oh, and we can throw in about 4 days of November in order to have Thanksgiving and a few days in December for Christmas. But since I haven’t figured out a way to make that happen I try to make the best of what Mother Nature throws at me. That’s why I decided to make an “Autumn Bucket List”.
There’s a better than good chance that I won’t do everything on this list but I thought it would be good to have a list of fun ideas to help me enjoy fall instead of fretting about the coming season whose name we dare not mention. So here goes:
- decorate for the season (I’m currently working on this)
- set out a puzzle to work on in the evenings
- buy several new soy candles with seasonal scents (essential oils, not fake fragrances)
- bake a pumpkin pie or cake
- take a drive to see the fall colors (Talimena Drive)
- buy at least one new fall decoration
- find at least three new soup recipes and make them
- read at least one book a week (instead of so much time online!)
- host a party of some sort (cocktail, wine tasting, tea party – something!)
- find and buy a combination coat rack/umbrella stand for the entry hall
- see Rocky Horror Picture Show
- take lots of walks with Shiloh while the weather is still nice
- spend lots of time on the porch before it gets too cold
- buy a fire pit for back patio so I can extend my outdoor time
- roast marshmallows and make s’mores
- drive to nearby lake for a picnic
- drink hot chocolate
- crochet a throw for winter
- pick a rainy day and spend it curled up with a blanket, a pot of tea and a good book
- plant herbs for kitchen window
