Maybe it’s just me – I readily admit that I’m nosy – but I find it interesting to hear how other people spend their days, particularly women at home. People often ask what I *do* and my best answer is that I’m not sure but it takes all day. I decided to think back on my day today and try to remember what I did. I’m sure there are things I’ve forgotten but here’s what I came up with:
- let out chickens, gave them some scraps and gathered eggs
- fed cats
- fed parakeet
- fed goldfish
- made lunches for David and Chris
- watered houseplants
- made yogurt
- made bread and butter pickles
- mixed up a pitcher of orange juice (we use frozen concentrate)
- boiled a dozen eggs
- made a pitcher of iced tea
- put out fresh towels in the bathrooms
- cleaned and organized one shelf in the refrigerator
- ran a load of dishes in dishwasher and put them away when done
- hand washed other dishes
- made potato soup for Chris
- made cheesy rice and ham casserole for dinner
- did three loads of laundry
- washed sheets on two beds and remade them
- polished a couple of tables
- cut fresh daffodils for the kitchen window to replace wilted ones
- cut a daffodil and some greenery to put in a bud vase on one of the tables I polished
- took cuttings from a couple of houseplants and put in water to root
- cleaned sink, counter and mirror in downstairs bathroom
- general tidying up around the house
- talked to my mom on the phone
- started working on my co-op order due tomorrow evening
- read and responded to some emails, including some UCM board business
- planned our weekly menu and posted it on Dee’s Kitchen
- did two quick posts on The Well-Groomed Hippie
- did wound care on Chris (from bicycle accident) twice
- researched organic, heirloom seed companies (need to order soon!)
- ironed our pillowcases and a couple of aprons
- ate dinner with David and watched the Bill Maher show together
- read a few blog posts and commented on one
- read a little Facebook off and on throughout the day
It’s now 10 p.m. I think I’m going to climb between those clean sheets, lay my head on those ironed pillowcases and read my nightly passage from The Message and a couple of chapters in my current book, Farm City: The Education of an Urban Farmer. If you have a blog and have ever done a “day in the life” sort of post, leave me a comment with the link. I’ll read it and leave you a comment.

My day has already started. Mostly, because it's 4.31am and I haven't slept. Again. I intend to stay up (caffeine is my friend) and get a full day in, so I sleep tonight. Before bed, I'll do a quite post on what I did to keep myself awake 😀 I'm sure my name clicks onto my blog 😀

If either of you, or anyone else reading this, does a similar post, don't forget to leave me a comment with a link so I won't miss it. I'm not doing very well keeping up with blog reading these days but I promise to read all posts I receive a link to.

But what do you do all day? 🙂
My days are not that dissimilar to yours. Animal care, house work, some blogging, activist/volunteer work. Also, school's back in session for me so studying and more studying.
