Ahh…hear that? It’s my favorite sound – the sound of silence. The roofers are done and David finished the plumbing. Everyone is gone. I’m alone. I would love to curl up with a cup of tea and a book (or take a nap!) but one of the roofers will be back *sometime* to pick up the check. And I agreed to bake a cake for a funeral at our church tomorrow which I need to take with me to choir rehearsal tonight. And I need to have dinner ready early. And I should finish sweeping the front porch and vacuum all the debris which is the result of David climbing in and out of the attic dozens of times while working on the plumbing (poor guy is exhausted!). And did I mention that I picked up my co-op order yesterday and one of the items I ordered was 20 POUNDS of apples? I don’t know what I was thinking but I’ve got to figure out what to do with them. Obviously some of that will have to wait until tomorrow but here are some pictures of two “30 Day Challenge” projects I’ve completed:
Here is a before photo of the cabinet in which I keep plastic containers, bowls, and salad spinner:
It gets messy in a hurry, plus I knew there were items I just need to get rid of. I’m trying to gradually eliminate as many plastic items as possible and am starting to replace them with glass or stainless steel.
Here is the “after” photo:
Isn’t that better? And here is what I’m getting rid of:
I’ll be checking with my daughter of Retro Housewife Goes Green to see which of these can be recycled at Whole Foods in Plano (none of these are recyclable here in our town).
And here is the project I tackled today. This is the cabinet under the sink in our bathroom. I’m ashamed to even show it but here goes:
I tossed a bunch of stuff and here is what I kept, all nice and organized:
So much better. I do wish the inside of the cabinet had been finished off and painted. I put down the green adhesive paper when we first moved in (over 12 years ago) which at least looks a little better than the raw wood and makes it easy to wipe out. I’d like to say that maybe someday I’ll paint that back wall but it’s highly unlikely. Oh, well. At least everything is tidy, even if it’s not pretty. I guess that’s what cabinet doors are for, right?

Your baskets of tidiness look lovely in the bathroom cabinet. Isn't it crazy how plastic containers multiply? It feels so good to thin them out and have lids for everything.

I couldn't believe how many extra lids I had in the plastics cupboard. In the bathroom cabinet I found that we had several extras of certain items with just a dab in them. My dear husband gets low on hair product, buys a new one and starts using it before the last one is finished up. I now have those almost empty ones in a separate area and am going to encourage him to use those first.
