We always leave up our tree until Chris’ birthday on January 10th. I’m always a little taken aback when I hear that someone has taken their tree down on Christmas day or the day after. I mean, to each his own but I enjoy the tree and decorations most during the week or two following Christmas. That’s when I finally have a moment to catch my breath and really take in the beauty of the season, especially at night when all the Christmas lights are on. Plus, I find that by leaving it all up until well into January, I’m really ready to do some cleaning and decluttering at that point. Hopefully this year will be no different!
I grew up with my Mum always saying that the decorations have to come down by Jan 6th which is the 12th night, and that it's bad luck to keep them up longer. I always keep mine up past New Year's. I don't believe it's bad luck, but it's kind of a tradition for me to take them down by Jan 6th.
I have been thinking about taking them down on Epiphany (the 6th). Chris is going to be 29 this year so perhaps I could change the tradition now. 😉
