Shop ’til you drop

October 23, 2013 By Deanna Piercy Leave a Comment

I just realized I haven’t posted anything here since last Friday. Last week was rather busy with three meetings, a piano lesson and choir rehearsal – as well as the usual stuff around the house. We went out both Friday and Saturday nights and then I went to the mall in Norman on Sunday.

I finally had faced up to the fact that cooler weather is upon us and I had almost nothing to wear. Seriously. I had completely worn out both of my pairs of jeans last winter. We leave for New Orleans this Friday and Sunday was the only day I could work in a shopping trip. Have I mentioned how much I dislike clothes shopping? David keeps telling me to buy clothes but I just put it off until things reach a desperate level. Before I left I asked what my shopping budget was. He came up with a ridiculously high amount, saying that since I haven’t bought much in years I had built up a surplus. I suspect he was simply tired of seeing me in the same old things.

So I took off for the mall. I knew I needed at least two pairs of jeans (something I especially dislike shopping for), a coat, some “underthings”, and some long sleeved tops. Not only did I find everything on my list – and then some – but I found some outstanding sales.  I found the black, lined trench coat I was hoping for, jeans that fit well and were half price, and several basic pieces (long skirts, tops, tanks to layer, and a couple of sweaters) which I bought in solid colors (mostly black and grey) to mix and match. I already had a pretty extensive collection of pretty scarves to accessorize with.

Last night I went to a store here in town and found some cute boots. They were on sale “buy one, get one half off” so I bought them in both black and brown. So I’m all set for winter and more importantly, to look cute in New Orleans. Yes, that’s the important part. Oh, and I still have quite a balance left in that clothing budget so I’ll be keeping my eye out for a few additions while on vacation. I can always use more hippie skirts and New Orleans is often a good place to find that sort of thing.

Do you like to shop for clothes or are you like me and tend to put it off?
