Summer nights…

June 28, 2010 By Deanna Piercy 4 Comments

One of my favorite things about New Orleans is all the live music.  There’s nothing quite like spending a summer evening with good friends listening to music.  Here in our little Oklahoma town, that sort of thing used to be hard to come by but things, they are a changin’.
This past Thursday evening I was invited to a friend’s house for dinner, along with three other friends.  David was out of town on a business trip so a ladies night sounded like a good idea.  The invitation was for 7 but the hostess enjoys late dinners so we had plenty of time to sit on the back deck, sip wine and chat.  While dinner was being prepared, there was a phone call asking if perhaps we’d enjoy a little live music to accompany our meal.  Uh, let me think about it…YES!
Sitting on the deck with good friends, fireflies dancing nearby and being serenaded by a couple of cute guys on a summer evening is definitely my idea of a good time.

But the fun doesn’t stop there.  On Saturday night David and I joined several friends at Vintage 22, the local wine and dessert bar, for more live music…by the same guys from Thursday evening.  “Frail” is a relatively new local duo.  (They also performed at our recent Happyland Music Fest.) We sat on the patio and enjoyed an amazing night of music, friends and good times.  I’d have to say the highlight might have been when we saw the reflection of flashing lights above the privacy fence around the patio and found out that someone had called in a noise complaint.  The music wasn’t loud at all but it was midnight and I guess the old people across the street weren’t enjoying it nearly as much as we were.  I hope I never get so old that I can’t appreciate people having some harmless fun.

Here are some pics from Saturday night.  I really need to get a small camera to keep in my purse.  An iPhone is great but without a flash, low-light pictures don’t turn out very well.

Deanna, You didn't even mention your delicious blackberry cobbler, which was a highlight of the supper Thursday night. 😉 And I agree, FRAIL is fantastic. It's exciting to see a local band so fresh and passionate. How lucky were we to have them over on our own Mid-Summer Night? And "Crash"…sigh…

Cathlena, if I had mentioned the cobbler I'd also have needed to mention your delicious pepperoni chicken. But I'm hoping to talk you into sharing the recipe as a guest post on "Dee's Kitchen" so we'll just wait for that. 🙂
