I love Thanksgiving. No gifts to buy or major expectations other than a good meal shared with people we love. On Sunday we drove to Tulsa to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with my brother and his family. My sister-in-law’s parents, my parents, and my kids came up as well and we just had the most relaxed, peaceful time together.
Mike and Miranda had run a marathon that morning. If you ever see me running there will probably be someone chasing me but these two actually do it on purpose. This was taken following the run. Don’t they look great?
Chris and Lisa had come up together in his car so he drove her back home while David and I got a hotel room in Tulsa. Sadly, we had a funeral to attend in Joplin, Missouri on Monday. One of David’s employees had suffered a heart attack. We picked up David’s boss at the Tulsa airport and drove up to Joplin Monday morning for the funeral which was at 1:00 p.m. We then dropped him off in Tulsa at the same hotel where we had stayed so he could catch an early flight the next morning back to Houston. David and I headed home, stopping for dinner at *our* restaurant first. To say that we were exhausted when we got home would be an understatement. And poor David then had to pack AGAIN this morning and drive to Enid to conduct some interviews this evening. He could have driven home late tonight but knowing how tired he was we both thought it best that he go ahead and spend the night. Neither of us sleep well apart but it’s just one night – and I’d hate for him to be driving when he’s so tired.
I feel as though we’ve barely been home the past several weeks. That would probably be because it’s true. I hate to admit this but I haven’t dusted my house since just before we left for New Orleans October 28th. If you know how I am about my house that will totally sum up just how crazy things have been and how little we’ve been here. Today I had a fairly lengthy meeting at noon and needed to pick up some lettuce for the salad I’m taking to my parents’ house Thursday. In between, I picked up a quesadilla for lunch and since it was an absolutely glorious day I decided to eat it at the park instead of while driving to the grocery store. It was so beautiful there. I listened to the audio book David and I had been enjoying on our travels while I ate my lunch. I then drove around the park and town a bit taking a few pictures. I’ll post those later. After I dust!
I picked up the lettuce and two other items at the store. I was surprised that it wasn’t crowded but then, I don’t shop at Walmart where everyone else seems to congregate. I was in line behind an elderly woman who had a hard time counting out the money for her purchases. The cashier was very sweet and patient with her. As I then took her place I noticed she had left her wallet so I ran it over to her just as she was leaving the store with the young man who takes out people’s groceries to their cars. Yes, this little store where I shop still carries out your groceries. Yet another reason I shop there instead of Walmart.
As I drove home I enjoyed the pretty fall colors of the trees and the bright blue skies. It was warm and sunny today but it’s supposed to turn suddenly cold on Thursday. I’m not looking forward to cold weather but we will be enjoying a Thanksgiving meal at my parents’ house that evening and I’ll bet they’ll have a fire in their fireplace. That’s one of the few things I do like about cold weather. If it weren’t for Thanksgiving, Christmas and fireplaces I’m just not sure if I could cope with winter at all.
Well, I suppose I’ve rambled on long enough (is anyone still reading?) so I’ll wrap things up with a question for my readers. What are your Thanksgiving plans? I’d love to hear all about how you’ll be spending the holiday. And for my international readers, what is your favorite holiday and how do you celebrate?

What a lovely day. I hope you and David can get some down time AT HOME soon.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, too. Up before sunrise putting the bird in the oven, then hitting the couch with the kids to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We will also visit Debi's dad, and bring some food to my mom on the way to work.
Speaking of the bird, here's what I do. I start with the turkey upside down and brown the heck out of it in the open roaster. Then, I flip it over (not an easy task) and brown the top of the bird. After it's all good and browned, I cover it and reduce the heat. In my experience, this seals in the juices and makes for the juiciest breast meat you can imagine. The rest of the bird falls apart, it's so tender.
Happy Mimosas to you!
It was a fun day! I'm glad I could go.
I love that your posts just ooze with appreciation for your "people" and your relationships…heartwarming!
I agree with you about Thanksgiving and Christmas making the cold weather palatable. Up in Canada, we had our Thanksgiving a while back, but all this reading about Thanksgiving makes me want to cook a turkey, and I just might do that 🙂 @bryanmory's method sounds pretty amazing! Have fun this weekend 🙂
Everytime I read your posts, you take me on a fabulous journey. I love that I can imagine everything you are talking about because of the way you write it.
We don't have Thanksgiving in the UK but for me I love Christmas, I love that I get to decorate two trees (I'm greedy, I have to have 2, I love listening to my son in Chapel Choir and I love midnight mass, if you hadn't of guessed it I just love Christmas x
Thanks, everyone. I hope each of you had a great day, too.
