THIS WEEK WITH DEE
This week’s post is going to be brief as I need to make a quick trip to Shawnee or Norman. The reason is almost too ridiculous to share but my mom’s elderly cat will only eat one thing which isn’t even cat food but rather, a cat treat. It’s become almost impossible to find and I order it for her from Amazon. The order isn’t coming until Wednesday and the cat is having a fit. Such is my life – ha!

IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
Since I’m in a hurry I won’t share what we did each day in much detail. I cooked a lot on Wednesday in preparation for Thanksgiving which the three of us celebrated on Thursday. My mom had food that day from my brother and sister-in-law so she asked me to wait until Friday to bring her food. I fixed two divided plates of food that she could heat in the microwave and also sent homemade cranberry sauce and a piece of spice cake.
Friday night, David and I watched our usual first Christmas movie of the season – Miracle on 34th Street. We alternate versions and this year was the original. We enjoy it every year.
On Saturday we did a Zoom call with all the kids and our 2 year old granddaughter. So much laughter!
Sunday was mostly a rest day but I did wash the sheets and put away all the fall decor. That evening Chris came over and we watched Home Alone, another holiday favorite.
THIS WEEK
David and I are going on a little get-away to Oklahoma City. We will stay at a nice hotel, order room service and take a drive to see the Christmas lights.
I’m hoping to put up at least part of the Christmas decorations this coming weekend.
WORK
Just the usual blog work and trying to get a month’s worth of social media scheduled. I’d like to be able to take off some time during December.
READING
I’m listening to the audiobook, Love and Duty at Blackberry Farm. One good thing about that drive I will be taking for cat food today is that I’ll be able to listen to a couple more hours of this.
Last night I finished a very old-fashioned book on Project Gutenberg called Margaret’s Saturday Mornings by Caroline French Benton. It’s meant to be a manual for teaching a young girl how to keep house but reads like a story. Even though it’s a children’s book I found it quite interesting. And my goodness, but the amount of work that went into housekeeping in the early 1900s! It made me grateful for our modern conveniences but at the same time thinking I could up my game a bit in some areas.
I’m also re-reading Home Sweet Maison: The French Art of Making a Home for an online book club. Again, this book is serving as inspiration to elevate my homemaking a bit.
If you don’t already have Audible, you can get a free trial here. We’ve definitely been enjoying it on long drives.
SELF CARE
I think I’ll increase my daily meditation to twice a day to help me stay calm and grounded through the busy holidays.
HEALTH & FITNESS
Chris moved the exercise bike (that he wasn’t using) to my office and I gave it a try to see if I could do it with my hip pain. I think it’s going to work better than the treadmill until the hip pain resolves. I will start slowly, though.
FUN ACTIVITIES
Our trip to the city will be my main “fun activity” this week. We will likely watch another holiday movie or two this week, as well.
HABIT OF THE MONTH (NOVEMBER)
Now that Thanksgiving is over I’ll start listening to Christmas music. I have several Christmas playlists on Spotify and will look for another Christmas album to add to our vinyl collection. And maybe another CD or two. I love the experience of sitting and listening to the stereo but it’s also nice to be able to put in 5 CDs at a time to play continuously throughout the day. Do you have any favorites to recommend?
I haven’t made this year’s Christmas playlist yet but here is last year’s:
