IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
A quick review…
My focus this past week was the family room and I must say I’m pleased with what I accomplished. The ottoman is still here but as soon as we have a dry day David will haul it off.
I did do the bookshelves and in addition to removing everything to dust, I decluttered a couple of boxes of books and a few decorative items. It still looks full so I’m not entirely certain how I had all those other books in there.
I also decided to put away the small, folding wood table that has been set up in there the past couple of years. It’s a great place to play games or work on a small project but no one has used it recently. It’s still easy to get to but I’m enjoying the more open space right now.
I dusted and did a thorough vacuuming. I didn’t get to the sliding patio door but until it stops raining I figured that would be worthless. The rest of the room looks really nice, though!
It wasn’t on my plan but I gathered a box full of random items around the house to take to Goodwill when David takes the ottoman. I already had two other boxes (in addition to the books) ready to go so I feel pretty good about seeing more items leaving my house.
THIS WEEK
Home tasks this week…
Instead of doing the usual Zone work this week, I’m going to do something a bit different. I’m making a “Two Minute List” and will work through it instead. What is a two minute list, you ask? It’s simply a list of household tasks that only take a couple of minutes yet for whatever reason, I’ve been putting them off. You can read more about this method here:
Get Stuff Done ~ Create a Two Minute List
I’ll make a list of about 20 items for the week ahead and see how many I can cross off.
WORK
I am almost finished with the LWD Book Club post for tomorrow and want to get another post done for later in the week. I also have a short list of tasks to do for our nonprofit.
READING
I’m really close to finishing a couple of books and will then start the June book club selection which you’ll see here tomorrow.
SELF CARE
I’m pleased to say that I did take part of Friday off as I had planned. I ended up watching the Audrey Hepburn documentary on Netflix which I really enjoyed.
I didn’t spend a couple hours reading as I had hoped so that’s going on this week’s list.
HEALTH AND FITNESS
I’d like to add a bit of weight training to my routine. I have a nice weight machine in my office but have I used it the past few years? Nope. That needs to change.
FUN ACTIVITIES
We enjoyed the live DJ show this past Friday but didn’t do the Starbucks date due to SO MUCH RAIN.
David’s birthday is this coming Saturday and we have reservations at our favorite OKC hotel for Saturday and Sunday nights.
HABIT OF THE WEEK
I’ve made iced tea twice this past week but honestly, it’s been so unseasonably cool that coffee and hot tea have been more to our liking.
This week I’m going to tweak my morning routine a bit. Once I get it all worked out I’ll write an updated morning routine post to share with y’all.

I’d love to hear what you have planned for the week. Leave me a comment below and have a beautiful week!

I’m really loving these posts. And I’m looking forward to seeing your updated morning routine when you have it figured out. Also, happy birthday to David.
I don’t have much of a menu figured out for this week. Monday I had a minted chickpea burger with chips (fries) and salad. Tuesday I had glazed aubergene (glazed with dandelion honey) and a baked potato, served with carrots, baby corn, and sugar snap peas. There’s leftovers from that, so that’s what I’ll have tonight (Wednesday). Tomorrow I’m thinking I’ll do something with jackfruit… Maybe jackfruit toccos? That’s as far as I’ve gotten.
Last week my Dad brought more stuff over, and we hadn’t finished dealing with the last batch, so plans for this week involve sorting through the boxes and bags of stuff I haven’t sorted yet that my Dad brought over for me from Nan’s stuff. There’s also some stuff of his he decided to go ahead and give us now. Plus there’s my Zoom book club on Friday, and I need to make time to figure out and make a character for another roleplaying game I’m joining in with. I’m also hoping to find time and energy to upload the files for the paperback versions of the two poetry books I just released, finish the knitted dog I’ve been working on since before I shut my hand in the door the first time (it’s almost done now, since I did get some done over the weekend) and at least get a chunk done on the crochet scarf I started as my, “Learn to crochet,” project back in March, as well as catch up a bit on some reading. Well, at least I can do the latter while working on the craft projects thanks to audiobooks and Kindle read out loud features. The only problem with these plans is that it’s gotten rather hot here, and hot weather makes me just want to sprawl in front of a fan and whine about how hot I am while drinking cold drinks and listening to an audio book, which would be great for catching up on my reading goal, but not for the rest of it. Haha! I’m fighting the urge to do that, but progress on anything is slow going, and it’s so tempting…

Here it is, almost the end of the week and I’m just reading your post! I was pleased to get a few things done on my list — vacuuming and steam mopping the floors, in particular. I also uploaded a couple things to sell on ebay. I’ve exercised every day, which is a miracle, and sent out a postcrossing postcard. Big accomplishment was making a menu plan so that I can skip grocery shopping for a week. Last month I spent more than I planned and so this month I am determined to use up lots of stuff and make meals from what’s on hand before I buy anything other than stuff we run out of, like milk. The menu plan has helped and I’ve followed it every day this week – Monday was burgers, potato salad and corn on the cob, Tuesday was leftover crockpot chili, last night was parmesan fish and broccoli, tonight is a cauliflower “porridge” I’m trying, tomorrow is chicken coleslaw, Saturday is lentil salad, and Sunday is tuna melts. Keeping it simple! I also opened a new account at a local credit union instead of relying on my bank in Houston, ordered a timer cat feeder so my cat won’t starve on our one day and a half out of town next week. Tomorrow I am putting together one big survival bag from al the bits and pieces I’ve stashed in the garage, using an old duffle suitcase no one has EVER used. I’ve played the piano a couple days this week so far, now that my son-in-law tuned it for me, and have got in a couple language lessons on Duolingo. I love reading about your weekly plans and yay you for getting the family room sorted and decluttering some boxes! Such a liberating feeling! Also – today – FINALLY bought a new couch for our living room, to be delivered Saturday. I never thought it would be that hard to buy a couch! Tomorrow is laundry day. Do keep posting these weekly plans — even if they don’t all get accomplished it’s nice to see what you’re up to!

First off, I was happy to see you are still blogging here. I popped over from your Pinterest post about how did women stay so trim in the 1950s. and really enjoyed that article – I think it might have been from 2017.
It’s a topic I never get tired of – when women had skills as homemakers (I prefer that term because I think it portrays the job better – it wasn’t just keeping house it was raising children and a lot of other things to keep house and home the place we remember even now.
I grew up during the 50s and 60s.
I remember the meals we had. My dad was a construction worker in the Los Angeles area so he was out an about during the day with his lunch packed. I also took a lunch to school. Usually packed lunches consisted of a sandwich, some kind of dessert like cookies, and maybe a banana, apple or orange. I bought milk at school for 5 cents and my dad had a thermos with coffee.
Breakfast – I think my dad ate toast – he left before I got up. I usually had some kind of cereal or sometimes a fried egg and toast. I don’t remember fruit or juice then. Juice was more of a snack time thing as well as crackers of some kind. Dinner/Supper consisted of some combination of meat and potatoes. My mom had a limited list of dishes she cooked – meatloaf, salmon patties (yum), spam, ham, pot roast, fried chicken, sometimes chicken and dumplings. Sometimes we broiled or barbecued outside and had steak, chicken or hamburgers. Potatoes various ways and canned vegetables and green salad pretty much every night. And dessert – usually pie or cake that my mom had baked. And that was it. I never got tired of her cooking. When I took home ec in junior high I brought home a lot of new recipes. Mexican and Italian food was slow to become part of the list. Once in a while mom went to some cooking classes put on by the electric or gas company and she would try something new but not always a success.
I have a lot more thoughts but I just wanted to stop and say thank you!
